update / Xeloda and Tykerb

After 14 days of not feeling too great, this week has been much better! Tykerb is taken every day (1250mg) for as long as I stay on this treatment. With my doctor's approval, I switched to taking it in the evenings, 1 hour before supper instead of in the mornings before breakfast. Xeloda is taken both morning and evening, 2000mg at each dose - but it is taken in cycles of 14 days on followed by 7 days off, then repeat.

Originally I thought Tykerb was the culprit here (making me feel bad), but it must be Xeloda (or the combination), because I've felt really good for the past 5 days with the exception of numerous blisters on my toes. Saturday I will begin round 2 of Xeloda and am hopeful that it may go a little easier. I'll post again and let you know.

Tomorrow is my monthly infusion of Zometa. My next scan will probably be in about 8 weeks to see if there is improvement in the tumors in my liver. I'll continue to pray that this regimen is working (asking for your thoughts and prayers too). Thanks to all who voiced concern about how I was doing. I'm here and living my life. My family, friends, and even my job are the things that keep me going. I love them all. God bless. Marsha

So good to see you posting Marsha!
From what you wrote about feeling bad then good, does make it sound like its the combination of the two chemo's, or, the Xeloda on its own, since you felt so bad during those 14 days.

I am glad that you are catching somewhat of a break and feeling better Marsha!

Good luck tomorrow with your infusion of Zometa. And, prayers and good luck for your next scan. Be sure and post before you go, so, we can all send the magic pink bus out with the pinks sisters on it to support you that day. Ok?

I think of you daily Marsha and you are always in my prayers! God bless you!

Marsha--I will put you on my prayer list now. I took Xeloda also. The worst thing was what it did to my skin. My hands still feel like they're made of parchment paper and I finished the medicine mid-March.

Marsha, I too will be starting Tykerb and Xeloda with Zometa monthly....Breast cancer has
spread to Adrenal gland and lower spine with previous in shoulder, sternum and back rib.
I pray to be able to tolerate the meds well...
I am 75 and just so weary of all the testing and maybe the worst is yet to come? Please keep me posted on your progress...
