I have to share our experience at UPMC Presby. This hospital and its staff all the way from the housing and insurance people to the surgeons and nurses were excellent! After my gpas surgery the nursing staff was terrific! They took care of my gpa like he was their gpa! We were so lucky to have them. Today we went back to UPMC for the first appointment after surgery they said he is doing excellent. they removed the drainage and feeding tube and we couldn't have been happier! If it wasn't for everyone from Dr. Luketich down to the janitors that keep that hospital spotless IDK where we would be! We are so grateful to have had the opportunity we did to go to UPMC!

    Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm anxiously looking forward to my procedure next month. I'm so happy to hear that your grandpa is doing so well! I hope I am so lucky. ;)

    My husband and I just returned to Florida from Pittsburgh after his 3 month checkup with Dr. Luketich after MIE on Feb. 23,2011. I'm happy to report that everything looked good-no sign of cancer. He doesn't have to go back for one year. We are very happy.

    We had wonderful care at UPMC from Dr. Luketich,Angela Gallagher, Amy Sue Lillie, Chuck the PA, and all of the fellows and attending doctors, as well as the nurses on the 7th floor. Even the cleaning people were friendly! We even gave written commendations to 2 of the nurses on the floor who were so kind to my 76 year old husband while he was in the hospital. Maybe we were lucky that we experienced no complications. My husband recovered quickly and is doing really well. His only complaint is that he can't seem to gain back the 20 pounds that he lost after the surgery. Dr. Luketich said he looked just right to him at his current weight. He said if everyone was my husband's weight we would have many fewer illnesses in this country.

    We did get to see Dr. Luketich himself each time we were in the Tuesday clinic. His staff made sure that he was available to see my husband which we really appreciated. He is indeed a busy surgeon but we were certainly impressed that he took the time to email me personally after my inital contact with him and he called my husband on the phone before we flew to Pittsburgh for the surgery. I understand that he makes a point of doing that for out of town patients. Not too many doctors take the time from their busy schedule to do that. When we went to Mayo Clinic for a second opinion before we decided on UPMC we got the bad news from a nurse that my husband needed to have his esophagus removed. The doctor refused to talk to us because he was too busy.

    I hope this helps anyone contemplating going to UPMC for MIE with Dr. Luketich. Please ask me any questions that you my have.

    I agree, I saw the Presby Hospital and all looked magnificent. Nothing to compare with Mercy Hospital. We went to Mercy for insurance reasons. Did not visit the hospitals prior to the procedure.The Presby even had a greeting desk with persons to help. It always looked sparkling clean. I DO NOT RECOMMEND MERCY HOSPITAL NOR THEIR NURSING STAFF NOR THEIR RESPIRATORY TECHS. SO SORRY.

    Just lost my husband at 52, I do not blame the hospital, but it did not help. Dr. Luketich obviously does not do rounds, he operates with others as it is a long surgery and one of the others is the one who sees patients on a daily basis. All that is ok when the results are favorable. Unfortunately ours was not.
