As far as preparing the liver, I have no experience, so I will bow to those that do.

    good good news Tina
    that is all good tina.....

I have had 2 liver resections and I did not do anything special to prepare.....no cleansing of the liver....

just lived my life and ate very well.....lots of protein for healing....eggs, shakes, yoghurt,/
oh and tina I did walk as much as I could and I tried to do anything that would strenthen the core muscles and back....once they cut your abs for the liver I found my back ached during recovery until the front healed up

maybe jorge won't have a big incision
    others will have different opinions

love and hugs to you both

    wonderful news!
    Hi Tina,

That's wonderful that Jorge is recovering so well from the surgery!
When I had my liver resection 3 yrs ago, I didn't do anything really to prepare, other than intake lots of protein the couple of weeks before, as my surgeon said most people lose lots of weight in the hospital after surgery (I didn't though- I actually gained some)
If I were having a liver resection today, I probably would just make sure I eat right and don't put any stress on the liver. Avoid alcohol and fatty foods. Eat lots of healthy protein. Maybe take milk thistle for liver detox? I don't know about that though as it might also stress the liver at the same time. Talk to your onc and surgeon about any kind of preparation.
Tina, he's making progress- this is great!!

    Hugs,
    Lisa

    HI Mags
I'm expecting to have my liver resected this summer and am afraid. What was the size of the incision for surgery and how well do the abs heal? I don't want to believe I've kept my girlish figure all these years and now may lose it all to cancer :(

    hi sister
my incision goes from the right hipbone.....up steeply to just below the bra line in the middle and then down in a V on the left but not as far as on the right.

I cannot say i would ever wear a bikini again but it's fine! no prob.

yes I think the back pain is the muscles in the back having to do all the work of hold the trunk up.....it lasted for about 3 months I guess....

I only realized I should exercise more when I was getting ready for the second resection.

don't be afraid sister....it is totally doable but it takes a bit to recover.....

ask away anything you want to ask

    all the best mags

    Hi Tina
I'm so glad to know Jorge's surgery went well!

My mum recovered well from her liver resection and she walked a lot before and after the surgery. Her physiotherapist did a very good job encouraging her to do different types of exercise after the surgery.

I think the most important thing is to relax. Both my mum and I were so nervous before the surgery, we spent a lot of time playing card games, went out to walk so as to forget about the surgery.

Best wishes to you and Jorge,
    Dora
