I have been out 3 wks on medical and I got a call from supervisor which asked if i was up to shop talk...? I said yes..

she explained changes within my work place and then said oh we did away with your position! we do have one in a different location...are you okay with that? I wanted to say what if I say NO? But of course I said YES as long as I have a job...(I carry all medical, dental, vision coverage for the family.

    Wow!
    Wow! That's cold.

My husband carries all of the extended health coverage through his current job for our family. Having it has been a godsend since my cancer journey began last September. His company is now going through restructuring and he can't get any straight answers as to how it will affect his job there. Safe to say he's putting his feelers out there for other opportunities.

I hope the new location for you will be a convenient one and that all works out well for you there. I can imagine how stressful it is. It's tough when life has you in a corner and you can't make the choices you would like to.

Keep us posted on how it all works out. I'll be thinking of you.

I am sorry you had to exp. this. It's interesting, I've been working from home for some weeks now because of chemo side effects and I feel paranoid about my job. I find it very sad and cold that jobs would do this to people who are going through a medical emergency - especially after all the time, sacrifice and effort invested for the company. At least they kept you, which is still OK. I wish you good luck with this transition and hoping everything works out.

    Is that legal?
Aren't there laws in place to protect people from that type of treatment? I'm not sure, but that might not be legal...?

    Wow
that's horrible, but at least you still have a job. Do you know if you will be reporting to the same building that you have always gone to, or is it in a different location altogether? I am so sorry that this has happened to you.

    FMLA
    Denise,

Did you file paperwork for FMLA? I thought the whole purpose of that was to protect your job.

    Denise I am sorry
they are doing that to you. Is the different location just another department or is it in a whole different place. I wonder what they would have done if you said no it was not alright. I don't think you can be terminated while you are on medical leave. I am glad that I work for a company that understood and told me not to worry about my job that my health came first.

I am sorry to hear this.
If this is the way they treat you in your present department. Maybe they are doing you a favor and you will be happier with the people in the new department. So sad.

    Denise, that is horrible,
Denise, that is horrible, but weren't you expecting them to do something like that? I mean, after the way they treated you before it's no surprise that they would scr** you over again. I hope one day it comes back on them and they realize just how wrong they were! On the bright side, maybe you will like this new job better? You never know. I wish you lots of luck and plenty of patience~ I also give you credit for responding the way you did. I don't know if I would have excepted the news with such grace. You do NOT need this added stress. Hugs to you~

I got laid off when I was on
I got laid off when I was on maternity leave years ago. Turned out they eliminated my entire department and we were all laid off. At least I had insurance through my DH and it gave me time to stay home with my DD.

Good luck with the new position, hope it works out for the best!

    Sorry!!!
Similar thing happened to me. It sucks!! Different states have different laws though. Where I live, they just have to offer you any possition when you come back, they don't have to give you the same one.... That is part of the reason I worked while undergoing the chemo and radiation. My supervisor moved me to another location 45 mins further away to a store that had exteded hours. This was after I informed the company that my oncologist had recomended chemo. I had/have an exemplary work record and never even used sick days. I figured that they were trying to make it rough on me so I would quit and they wouldn't have to deal with the insurance. They also demoted me from a managment possition to a staff possition. Before I had cancer they couldn't say enough good things about my work, but then all of a sudden I was person non grada... So I worked all during chemo and radiation while not asking for even 1 day off or having to adjust my work schedule. My Doctors were amazing to work with me. They said that they had seen it before. In a way it may have been a good thing in a round about way because it made me fight harder, but I will never be able to trust my supervisors again. When I could have used their support and understanding, all I got was a cold shoulder.....

    wow
you would think with all the discrimnation laws..they would handle us with kid gloves..but they do just the opposite....it's terrible..

i was even written up for abusing my sick time...the year I had cancer...I ONLY took 2 wks off for surgery and did radiation on my lunch hour for 8 wks...

That stinks, Denise. The very idea of a boss calling to tell a cancer patient that is outrageous.
