Do You See The Woman That Is Me?

Do you know me?
I’m so much more than what you see.
A wife, a mother, but look deeply -
I’m an artist, a writer, a teacher,
A philosopher, a counselor, a leader,
Look closer, do you see her? She’s me.
A worker, a supporter, a provider, a healer
A friend, a lover, do you see her? She’s me.
I dream, I think, I ponder;
I have ideas and opinions, solutions to offer.
Do you see her? She’s me.
Perfection I am not, a work in progress,
Clay to be wrought; worked and reworked,
Molded and designed,
By life and all that fills my mind.

Do you know me?
I’m so much more than what you see.
I have been wrong and made mistakes,
From that I’ve learned what it takes,
To overcome, be strong, and wiser.
Do you see her? She’s me.
I’m a lifelong student of life and
Higher learning, pausing now and again,
To care for all things concerning life and learning.

Do you know me?
I’m so much more than what you see.
I smile, I laugh, I hurt and I cry.
I feel joy, I feel pain, and I feel sorrow.
I’ve been lost in the darkness, but
Know there’s always a new tomorrow.

I’m sexual, I can seduce and be seduced,
To passion I can introduce. I am a woman,
A being, important, fragile, indestructible
And cautious, fearful and strong.
My heart is filled with tears and with song.
I can condemn, forgive and forget,
Fight and struggle, succeed and fail,
My life is more than a poetic tale.

Do you know me?
I’m so much more than what you see.
A negotiator, a politician, a member
Of society, look closely, really, it is me you see.
Do I sit on a Board or hold a high office?
Not formally, but in reality, I fill these roles daily.
I never stop growing intellectually and emotionally.
I never stop seeking to be the best I can be.

Not Who I Am
I am someone who is not dying of cancer but someone who lives with cancer.
I am a mother.
I am a daughter.
I am a grandaughter.
I am a wife.
I am an Aunt.
I am a cousin.
I am a friend.
I am a fighter.
I am a defender of my children.
I am smart.
I am intollerent of ignorance.
I love my family and they love me unconditionally.
I am me.
