Mkay, I give up..What is a Mammogram Cone Downs (MAG VWS)?

For some wacky reason, I have this visual imagery of them sending in the clowns, clowns with cones and big red noses pasting those thingies that go over your nipples on everything everywhere, just a hilarious pandemonium. =)

But, I'd hazard a guess to say I'm prolly very much mistaken in this assessment.

Cone downs and Mag Views are to get a better look at something. Some times it is small calcification's. It may be tissue over lapping so they want to spread it out. The paddles can be about 3 inches in diameter or there is a square one that is about 4 or 5 inches square. They only image a small area.

Cone downs don't always include magnification but some do. That is another piece they add to the machine that moves the breast away from the film.

Now since this is a smaller surface area with the same amount of pressure, it may seem like they are squishing more but it's like when you wear stilettos they leave a dent in the floor but loafers don't. You still weigh the same.

    I hope that helps!

    hmm...
Well that clears things up a bit! I wonder how they decide which smaller area to pick from? Perhaps, most utilize the mammogram/film and then sort of zoom in on the spot in question?

The hospital seems to never be able to find/archive any of my previous mammograms. Consequentially, I've already had two this year alone. Lots more last year. So, this ought to be interesting, how they're going to manage to cope with succeeding if they have to use the latest one to go off of.

Anywho, thanks for an 'insider's' view! =)
