in Breast Cancer #1
am worried, i had a routine mommo in dec lasy year and told to come back in 6 months as disturbing changes found, went 3 weeks ago and mentioned to girl at desk about the changes in my right brest, she told me that she would enter in to computor and that it would go to a doctor, havent heard anything yet my own gp is quite dismissive

MY SIMPTOMS ARE THE NIPPLE AND AEROLA ON RIGHT BREAST IN MUCH LOWER THAN THE LEFT AND IS NOT IN THE CENTRE OF BREAST LIKE OTHER ONE ,
THIS HAS BEEN CHANGING OVER THE LAST YEAR OR SO (I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST OLD AGE CREEPING IN AGE 52 DOES BRESTS SAG DIFFERENTLY)
aLSO OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS THE VEINS IN MY RIGHT BREAST HAS BECOME VERY ACCENTUATED

HAS ANY ONE ELSE HAD THEESE SIMPTOMS

Should i go to a private clinic

i have had 2 cousins midiagnosed with cacer and both died ( one breast cancer)

    Hi there.

    I highly suggest you go and get a second opinion. I'm not a doctor, but what you describe does not sound normal at all.

    Go to Google Images and do a search for "breast cancer in nipple". You will probably be able to find an image that resembles what you are describing. A lot of the images link to medical sites.

    But, definitely get to another doctor as soon as possible.

    It is great that you notice changes when they occur in your body. Breasts do change as we age just like the rest of our body changes. Skin gets thinner, things sag, and changes occur. Most of the changes are normal, but sometimes of course they aren't. I did notice when I did a google search that plastic surgery is offered for folks that develop uneven nipple placement due to normal aging processes. The article did not specify how quickly normal changes occur. Noticing a nipple that begins to point in a different direction, that inverts- turns inward--when it used to point out are both concerning signs of a possible problem. Noticable veining could be a sign of thinner skin though I did notice the surgeon checking out where I had veins compared to where the spot was on my mammogram. He said that sometimes things are related but he also said it wasn't the first thing he looked for. Lumps and spots on a scan were considerably more important.

    Getting an exam by a trained nurse practioner or doctor that specializes in breast care might put your mind at ease about how normal the changes in your body happen to be. I find that nurse practioners that work at GYN offices or oncology clinics will take a lot more time to examine my breasts. GYN doctors aren't usually the ones that do breast surgery, so they really aren't the best for doing breast exams (Note: this was a great surprise to me when I was first diagnosed!). Breast surgeons are vastly better at finding problems because they have tons of experience. General surgeons who do a LOT of breast surgeries are right behind them.

    Since being diagnosed with breast cancer, I have gone to a large university hospital that offers a clinical breast exam by a trained nurse practioner at the same time as my mammogram. They can order an immediate ultrasound if needed to verify if there is a problem if needed. The doctors are just down the hall if they need the help. The nurse is great at answering questions and educating patients on how cancer feels (they have silicone models), if they should be genetically tested for breast cancer (they have the questionaires to determine risk), and the ability to get you to the right folks if you need further help.

    Since I have insurance, the only extra cost to me is the driving time. If money is a problem or such a clinic is too far from you, you might contact your local breast cancer agency. The local hospital might be able to refer you. They often know who in your community could do a clinical breast check.

    Please remember to breathe! Most breast cancer is not genetically related, so just because you have two folks in your family that had cancer doesn't mean you are more likely to get cancer. It is good to be aware and check things out. Just don't panic!

    First off, go to your OB/GYN. They know a little more about breast issues and you should be able to get a "clinical breast exam". Second, if you do not have the results from the follow up mammogram, call your doctor to get the results. Three weeks is too long to wait. The radiology department may not give you the results over the phone but they should have mailed them by now. If you go to the OB they should also be able to get the results.
    Third, listen to your gut. If you do not get a reasonable answer, keep pushing. We know our bodies the best.

    Not sure what you mean -
    by "lower". Are you talking about it 'moving' lower on the breast or that it's 'inverting' (going in)?

    Don't just talk to a girl at a desk - call and demand to at least talk to your DRS RN. If it is inverted PLEASE be sure you get to a DR ASAP - that is one of the symptons of Inflammatory Breast Cancer.

    Do you have a DX of BC (and what type) or are just wondering what might be?

    Don't wait any longer. Call, call, call and find out your results. It took me a year+ to get my radiologist to send me to a surgeon. My lump was behind the niple and the aerola. They kept telling me that it was a blocked duct and not to worry which is what we want to hear. Of course they were wrong and I lost my breast. So I should never have waited that long. Don't you. I learned the hard way to be very aggressive from now on. Peace of mind is so inportant.

    I would get another opinion. with the changes you have noticed you need answers now. Don't be pushed to the side and told to wait. Go with your instincts they are almost always right. Keep calling till you get your answers. Don't be afraid to fire your Dr, if need be. There are so many out there that really care. Good luck sweetheart keep us posted. Kay

    sorry but my symptoms where totally different... my breast cancer was right at the left nipple did not sag was hard as a rock.. No discoloration and no lowering....but it is different for some not everybody has the same symptoms ... I wish you luck...
