I saw a familiar face in the Teal Ribbon intro to the Doctor Oz show that's on right now-will we have a feature about her?

    I don't know. I sent what they asked for, so who knows what they will use.

    I did not appear in person on the show. I was not willing to stay over an extra 2 days in Manhattan for the taping.

    I watched yesterday and was meaning to watch today as soon as they announced what todays show was about. I hope i did not miss too much important info.

    My picture was on the teal
    My picture was on the teal ribbon at the start of the show, and also in the slideshow they did at the very beginning. If we all get 15 minutes of fame, I figure I have about 14 minutes and 55 seconds left.

    You didn't miss a lot. The focus was on women who had seen his show on OC, or someone else had seen it and called them, and as a reault, they were tested and their cancer was caught early. Sort of a "hurray for Dr Oz thing."

    I was interested in the diet tips. A very large study (two, actually) determined that drinking 2 cups of tea (black or green) every day will lower your risk of OC by 47%. Trouble is, I was already drinking a ton of tea, and I got it anyway. Still....that's an impressive number.

    I told people to watch it and then my recording didn't take
    So frustrating---My sister (the patient) said it was good, and in the absence of a lot of information, at least compared to breast cancer, I say good for Dr. Oz. I checked out the website, http:/www.doctoroz.com/videos/ovarian-cancer-reduce-your-risk, and it seems pretty good, but I still wish I could have viewed it myself. Supposedly it's playing again in my area at 1am, but that's not what the cable guid shows. (Sigh).
    Let's hope that this gets the ball rolling on educating people (including the professionals) on this horrible disease so we can beging diagnosing earlier.

    just read your note. I was so hoping for a comprehensive report. However, if it gets it in the forefront....Per usual this forum seems to be the best for getting info.

    Saw your photo first thing on Dr Oz this afternoon. Good show, wish it would have aired back in May 2006. Would have caught mine much sooner than stage 3c

    Did you have early symptoms,
    Did you have early symptoms, Rosemarie? I didn't. I had no symptoms until just a couple of weeks before my diagnosis. I did have one severe bout of constipation about 4 or 5 months before my cancer was found, but it resolved itself within a matter of hours. Who goes to the doctor with that kind of complaint? No one I know.

    What were your symptoms, and when did they start?

    I missed the show today. I happened to see Dr. Oz's previous show giving the top warning signs of OVCA (I think there were 6?).

    I had none of them. Still, I'm glad to see that the disease is getting some national attention.

    I'm gonna start drinking more tea...if you find me posting at 3 am, you'll know why. : )

    Me, too. My husband said Dr Oz was oversimplifying the whole thing, and I have to agree. He really made it sound like all you need to do is "listen", and if you do get OC, you will catch it early.

    Dr Sabbaniti and I talked about this earlier this month. He would like to see more emphasis put on finding a vaccine that is effective, because the symptoms are so often just not there. And that's not going to change. Listen all you want, but many, many women just don't have early symptoms. Including me.

    No symptoms either.
    I had no symptoms. I had a full pelvic ultrasound and kidney US in August 2010 and all was clear. In Jan 2011 I had a 12 cm tumor in my right ovary, a 4 cm tumor in my left ovary, one 10 cm benign tumor in the cul-de-sac all seen on PET. What the PET didn't show was a 6 mm tumor on the omentum. The surgeon saw it during surgery. And this is how in 5 mo I got to have ovca stage 3B. Before the PET I also had a US for my right kidney as follow up and that's when the right tumors showed up first. The recommandation was to repeat the pelvic US in 3 months. I waited one day and went for the scan and CA 125. My bc onc is very aggresive and she is not even obgyn.
    I think the key is to have pelvic US every 6 mo from the age of 35 and for high risk women every 3 months with CA 125 starting with perimenopause or sooner depending on BRCA status.US is not invasive and is not that expensive.

    Dr. OZ did over-simplify it for me. I did have the symptoms, but they did not begin to show up until two months before I went in to see the after hours doctor about a persistent cough(fluid around the lungs). I am sure that the cancer was already far beyond the early stage when the symptoms did show up in my case. I agree, with Havehope2 on this, at the very least there should be more than an annual PAP smear.

    I am new here. My name is Tracy. I didn't have any sympton before I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer stage IIIC. A result from my annual paps mear came back with carcinoma detected. It took over a month for my family doctor and OBGYN to figure out it is OC. I had surgery in December 2009, had 8 Carbo/Toxel treatment. CA 125 was still at 40 range, and doctor put me on Toxel maintanance until January 2011. And last month, April 2011, CA125 elevated to 175 and PET scan confirmed with finding. I am thinking about taking clinical trial Doxil + AMG386, or HIPEC surgery. Anyone has idea or experience?

    Just want to introduce myself to the forum and looking forward to knowing all of you so we can exchange info and support!

    I agree with you ladies
    I was so happy Dr. Oz was doing this show but it seems like the message was, watch for these signs, get diagnosed and you are cured. I am happy for the women featured but it seemed as if they think they are cured. What about recurrance? I don't want to be a downer but I if I didn't know better I would have come away from watching this show not being that afraid of ovarian cancer.

    I also saw you on that teal ribbon, Carlene.

    I had no sypmtoms accept for some bowel changes now and then (constipation and loose bowels). But, I have had that since my late 20's and chalked it up to my endometriosis dx. (Many do go to the doctor for this and get mis-dix with IBS.) 6 months before my 3C dx, my CA125 was at 7. (I was having it checked every 6 months for a couple years.) At dx it was 500. I have sometimes pondered the relatively low CA for such a late stage dx, and for the amount of disease I had, but I guess we are all, totally unique, even within the late-stage-dx category.

    Is the Doxil/AMG386 trial in phase III yet? I had read it was headed in that direction. A Phase III trial would be exciting. Does everyone get the trial drug, or is there a control arm?

    Where are you being treated? The HIPEC surgery is very interesting, as well. I think Cleveland Clinic does it, but there are probably other places, as well.

    Doxil/AMG386 and HIPEC
    Hello, Carlene,

    I can tell that you are on top of everything about OC. So glad to meet you here!

    My doctor in UCSF will let me know what phase of the Doxil/AMG386 is. She did mention that she would like to make sure that I will get the trial drug instead of getting dynamic pick. Do you know anybody had that trial? Have you heard any feed back about the trial as far as side effect, the outcome, etc.? Sincerely appreciate any information.

    My surgeon gyn/onclogist, is the only doctor who does HIPEC in whole bay area (San Francisco, San Jose, CA). HIPEC makes good sense theriotically: 42 to 45 degree centigrade Carbo/Texol direct spray into pelvic cavity with attempt to kill any cancer cell left in pelvic. My only doubt is that leading educational medical center like Standford, UCSF don't provide the option and don't endorse the idea either. But no one can tell me a solid reason why they don't endorse this treatment. If I choose to do HIPEC, I will post more information to share with all of you.

    I'm happy & sorry to meet you simultaneously! I am glad you found this discussion board & I hope you are calling yourself a survivor because YOU ARE A SURVIVOR!

    I caught the rerun of the Dr. Oz show & liked what he said "Have your doctor prove to you that you DON'T have ovarian cancer!" I also like how he is empowering women to trust themselves because women know their own body better than any doctor.
