Just diagnosed with ovc, need advice

Hello all

I cannot stop crying ever since I got a phone call about my mom"s ovarian cancer.
My parents live in Nepal, south east Asia. Mom had the surgery done for biopsy but the physician has asked my mom to return to the hospital in couple of days to discuss what stage it is and may be some treatment option.
I"m really worried!! The information in the Internet about prognosis of OVC is really heart breaking.
My mom is 54 years old and she is physically fit.
She went to see the Dr because she had a period after years she stopped her period. She does not have other symptoms.
Please give me some advice on treatment options and also the complications of it.

    I am so sorry your mom has to go through this,but as I have said many times you have come to the right place. There some a lot of great new chemos now and I am sure your mom will do well. We have many survivors here and I am one, so there is always hope. Your mom will probably have surgery also. Do you live here in the states? Your moms journey has just begun. God bless...val

    Thank you so much Val for the quick response.

    I was little relieved to see this discussion board where wonderful ladies like yourself share your stories and give advice.

    Mom told me she just had surgery for biopsy. She will send me copies of reports on Friday after she visits her doctor. Hopefully it's not as bad.
    I am also planning to get some opinion about her case at hospitals here in US. We want our mom to live forever. She holds our family together.


    Val- how long u had ovc for??

    Hi, I am very sorry to hear about your mother. I am just beginning my journey as well so I don't have a lot of advice. After they diagnosed mine from a biopsy, they are now planning on doing what they call a staging surgery. This is when they go in and biopsy EVERYTHING in the abdomen. I believe this is common practice so they can see if the cancer is anywhere else. Maybe your mom has already had this not sure.
    I agree the internet information on this is very bleak. The only thing I have to say about that is to NOT get hung up on the statistics. Everyone is different and everyone responds differently the treatment. In fact my doctor told me this and I have taken it to heart. Your Mom will need you now, and you two can be a comfort to each other. I have found GREAT support here from women who are beating this disease. They are all willing to share their experiences and offer lots of great advice. Feel free to email me anytime you need to talk. I remember just a month ago when this all started, for me it was nice to have an ear to listen. Remember you and your mother are braver than you think.

    The stage makes a big
    The stage makes a big difference. Most of us were stage 3 or 4 but your mom might be one of the lucky ones. Even so, I was diagnosed in 2009, stage 3c and I am in remission now.

    Different treatment options
    Dikshya: your mom's doctor may offer her surgery first OR chemo first. Either way, I hope there are enough family members in Nepal so that she will have help. When chemo is given first, it is usually given again after surgery.

    It is good that your mom is otherwise healthy & strong. Sounds like she has a good chance of going into remission. Try to imagine the best outcome for her rather than the worst. I am so sorry you are here on this discussion board--you will get good information & maybe a little peace of mind.

    I believe you did a good thing in finding this board. You will find many different approaches to your questions. It's also really smart to get ahold of all your mom's records. If there are any scans being done, be sure to get a cd of those. Then you'll have lots of information to give to a doctor here in the US, or wherever you're seeking another opinion. The statistics are grim...ignore them. Most women get a remission after their first line of chemo, and many stay in remission a long time. Your mom might as well be one of them.
