I will get my port removed Wednesday Afternoon! Wooo Hoooo! I can not wait to have a foreign object removed. I liked the ease of use of the port and less risk of infection.
I hated shaving my chest, lol, worse was forgetting to shave my chest, ouch.

When I lost weight the port started to get irritated by to much body movement. Basically I did not have the fat cushion between the port and the skin. Else I had no difficulties or issues with the port. It made the Chemo Ordeal much more manageable, and I would recommend to anyone else. The benefits far outweighed the risks and discomfort.

My CEA is still at 3.2 for six weeks now! I am walking a lot to get back in shape. Starting to work again. I am really thinking about starting a new business venture. Still in the idea/planning phase.

PS Thanks Everyone for all of your support! Without everyone's input Chemo would have been much much worse.

    Hey Mike!!
    Getting that port out must be so liberating!!! I do agree that it makes chemo so much more manageable and comfortable. You go and follow your dreams and start that new business venture, cancer woke my A** up and made be realize that my days are numbered and I just need to cease the moment. You you will do great!!:)

    What a wonderful feeling to get that port out. I've always been thin, well mostly around 125 lbs and when they inserted the port it always hurt because never having any fat on the collar bone, it just hurt. So I'm glad you lost the weight, and now feel better, but hate the fact that it hurt you. Congratulations on a new step to freedom :)

    Good to hear you're almost FREE Mike!!

    When preparing for my ileostomy takedown last November, my surgeon asked me WHY I wanted the port removed at the same time. Told him, "I've had artificial crap on me and in me for 8 months now and I'm ready to get back to being JUST ME again".

    And IF the cancer comes back?

    Well, after all the "procedures" I've had in the past year, one more in my resume ain't no thang ;)

    Port removal should be easier than a tooth being pulled.....
    and a hell of alot more significant....whether removed at doc's office as mine was a year ago or in a hosp, a lttle local and you might feel a tug as port is twisted and turned on its way out....A day or two later, all that will remain is a little scar and many "fond memories" that hopefully never,ever need repeating...As for walking, a cane may prove useful for balance and support...steve

    Thank You all for the well wishes and good thoughts/prayers! I am home and feeling the little sting of stitches. In three weeks I have a Colonscopy with Biopsy and I can feel at ease again.

    Congratulations on your port removal. Mine always bothered me because of me not having any fat between the port and the bone. It always hurt when hugging someone. Yipee for you and glad that you got to have it removed.
