Scalp care?

How do you all wash/care for your bald, or nearly bald heads? I am sure it was because of that, but yesterday afternoon DH and I went for a bike ride. It's hot and I wore a hat. Now I have some little red bumps on diffferent parts of my scalp and they do itch. I have been using just Suave shampoo on my head each morning. Any other ideas for cleaning my scalp? Anything to relieve the itchy bumps?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Nancy

    I used...
Dove for sensitive skin from head to toe...... And I always wore a nylon skull cap under all hats and my wig....otherwise it felt irritated....my head was very sore and tender for about 3 weeks after it started to come out....I had it buzzed before the first chemo, that started coming out on day14 after the first chemo....so I shaved my head.....I always wore a really soft scarf at home, it was a triangle and the top was padded....and I wore a cotton cap at night....my head got cold!
You might ask about using a cortisone ointment on the bumps..but ask your doctor first...

    It gets better...

Baby shampoo & prescription cream for the red bumps
    Nancy,

My chemo nurse recommended using baby shampoo on my scalp, as it's very, very gentle, and made for sensitive little bald heads. IMO, Suave is probably too harsh to use right now.

I also got the itchy red bumps on my scalp, and nothing I tried over the counter helped much. My oncologist prescribed an acne medication (Clindamycin) that cleared it right up -- so I highly recommend asking your doctor to take a look at them.

    Ovation works!
I just got the scalp therapy and used it tonight - stays on for 2 hours then rinses off. My scalp feels amazing. I have also used baby shampoo.

    I used my daughter's baby
I used my daughter's baby shampoo on my head every day, and even conditioner (i didn't lose all of my hair, i had tiny stubbles the whole time). I had chemo in the fall, though, so my head was always cold & covered in a stocking cap most of the time, so I didn't sweat much like you've described.

My scalp developed acne about 8 days after each chemo. My dermatologist recommended I use Head & shoulders and sure enough the acne would go away. Following chemo I used baby shampoo. Last week I bought an all natural shampoo and conditioner with Biotin to help promote healthy hair growth. I finished chemo Dec 7, 2010 and my hair is barely more than 1/2 long.

I have not gone bald just yet, but I would suggest my favorite remedy: coconut oil! It is anti itch and anti inflammatory. It successfully treated my Taxotere rashes.

    Scalp care

    Hi Nancy,

Within a day of shaving my head I got a really itchy scalp too and little bumps all over. It was so irritating and made me really miserable.

I washed my bristly head with some baby shampoo and then tried rubbing on some BIO OIL, which I'd been using for my operation scar.

The itching stopped almost immediately and the next day the bumps had almost gone! Been using it for a few days now and it's a massive relief! With the added bonus that it smells gorgeous! Definitely worth a try. It's available in the UK, not sure about the States.

    Goodluck xx
