If you have young kids, you need to check out Campkesem.org. If there is one near you, check for openings. It is the most fabulous thing that cancer will do for your kids. It is funded, organized and run by college kids, who most likely have had parents with cancer. I was kind of worried about sending my 7 and 11 year old last year, but they had the most AMAZING time, and can not wait to go again this year. I truly can not explain what an awesome thing this is. And it is 100% FREE. They just received a livestrong grant, and will be opening 12 new camps next year. You can vote at livestrong.org or on facebook for a camp near you. Check it out!!!!

My daugher (who is 10) will be attending Camp Kesem at the University of Notre Dame this summer. Which is about 10 minutes from my house ;) I contacted them last fall when I got a brochure from a cancer center I was going to. They are super nice & my daughter is way excited to go. They have different camps for different ages. My friend in town who is also a breast cancer survivor has a 14 year old daughter who will be going this summer also. Camryn (my daughter) said that she's looking forward to going to camp for the first time, but also that she "hopes there are kids there who's moms are newly diagnosed, because I hope i can help them not feel scared". She can be really thoughtful when she's not being a sh*t head.
This is SUCH a great thing they're doing for our kids!
    *hugs*

    Yay!
Glad I could spread the word. It was such an amazing experience for my kids. They couldn't wait for the fall reunion, and are so, so, excited to go back this year. They came home with such wonderful stories, and self confidence it was amazing. I think it took a good 2 weeks before every conversation was not somehow tied to a camp story. It is truly one of the most amazing places! They got a livestrong grant to open 12 new camps throughout the country~ so go to livestrong.org to vote for a camp near you!!!
