Hello, newbie here. I am not ever sure I need to be on this site. But, I have been have difficulty swallowing for a couple of months now. With the feeling of food and liquid always getting stuck. I have been vomiting several times a week. I have lost weight because of this. My question is, how soon after the endoscopy will I know the results? I know there are several other medical conditions that can cause this problem but I am really concerned about this.

    WElcome to our site. You're
WElcome to our site. You're right, the symptons you mentioned can be several things. It's good you're having the scope done. There's a lot the dr. can tell you then, but sometimes he will wait. It's really up to the dr. I was told the day I had my scope, that I had cancer, but they did biopsy it. The results were back and I saw the surgeon the next week.
Good luck. I know you are nervous. I will be lifting you up in prayer, Sandra

    Endoscopy
    Hi,
when I had my first endoscopy the surgeon saw me after I came out of anaestitic and gave me an internal photograph of my oesophagus. I then had an appt with her two weeks later where she told me the results. If your surgeon sees something she will need to do a biopsy but a photograph will generally show you either a lump or, in my case, scaly redness.

Endoscopy doesn't hurt, so don't get too stressed. Good luck with it all

    Endoscopy
My husband and I have both had endoscopies. In both cases, the doctor came in after the sedatives had worn off and gave us preliminary results. In my husband's case, he was told his looked good, but needed to wait a few days for the biopsy results to confirm that a few anomalies were benign. This is the more common scenario.

In my case, the doctor told me right away that he had found a malignant tumor and scheduled a CT scan for the next business day without waiting for the biopsy. This is unusual.

In any event, the least you should expect from your doctor is to be told immediately after the procedure (whether by the doc or his/her PA) whether or not anything was found needing biopsy, or whether all they did was simply stretch the esophagus, which is fairly common when there's a stricture.

Jim's scenario was exactly like Lu's. The doctor came in and told us Jim had Barrett's and a tumor that was cancer. He gave us a picture of the tumor and the report. It was overwhelming, yet I had researched Jim's symptoms and everything kept coming up ec. Of course that is not what we want to hear and it is still a shock.

Good news!! How wonderful. I know hiatus hernias and gerd is not so great to have but at least it is not this dreadful cancer. Now take care of that gerd because if not taken care of it can turn to cancer. My brother was told he had gerd only for it to be cancer.
I am just so happy for you that it's not cancer!!

    GREAT NEWS!
I am so glad you had good news. Take care of your gerd! My husband was diagnosed with both of these many years ago and then cancer.

    Best wishes,

    My Experience
I had the results of the biopsy withing a few days (positive). Then I had to wait to have a CT/Pet scan and get the results which took another week. In all, within 2 weeks I knew I had cancer, what kind and the recommended treatment. I was diagnosed at Boston Medical Center but selected Massachusetts General because they appeared to have a much stronger cancer center and treatment program. Your symptoms were similar to mine, but nothing happened with me until I vomited blood and that's when I went to the emergency room which started my diagnoses. I wish you the best and hope that your diagnoses is better that mine was.
