Remember Our Organs

Hi -- I am one who loves my organs and wanted to share this with you. We get caught up in beating this beast up that we forget about our organs - sometimes. Well, I just want to say that remember to drink A LOT of water as these drugs are very hard on our organs and they too deserve caring. Our Oncologists forget about them and gives us all kinds of drugs to be comfortable with treatments and emotions, but remember we have a big team in our bodies - our organs. Not only the drugs are doing the job, but also them. So if we can tolerate some side effects, let's help our organs and deal with them (especially for liver and kidneys). Let's also eat the right healthy things to help them process less things. Though we want this beast OUT of here, we also want to keep our organs happy and healthy.

Just wanted to share with all of you.

    Don't understand what you're
Don't understand what you're saying. My Chemo Dr was very pro keeping ALL of me as healthy as possible.

    Sorry my message wasn't
Sorry my message wasn't taken as I intended. :(

In short what I meant was if we are given drugs to deal with side effects (antibiotics, laxatives, pain killers, nausea pills, anxiety pills, etc..) to remember to drink a lot of water to help our bodies.

I personally don't like to take drugs, so taking chemo and additional pills has been hard for me, although I know I am doing the right thing. Sometimes I get headaches and other minor side effects, but I choose to fight it with no meds to help my body by eliminating some drugs. I was just sharing my experience with you to also help you remember to drink your water, and to remember we have a great team also fighting for us, which is our body.

    Nice you brought this up
Nice you brought this up because I was thinking of our organs today while my husband was getting tests done at the hospital.I pick up a magazine and there was a article that interested me.I wrote things down. I was at my last paragraph. Here comes my husband.I put paper and pen in my purse.Leave and realize I forgot my keys.So back to the X ray area.

Now I am catching up around the house but want to share with my Pink Sister a few things I learned.I just need a bit more time. One thing I found was our kidneys need broccoli.2 times a week. That and brussel sprouts are my favorite veggies. The kidneys did get my attention though. It was saying we MUST take care of them. After my dx I had tests done that showed kidney stones and a kidney cyst. Oh and it said that the broccoli helps prevent kidney cancer. I sure learned something new and sharing it with all of you now.

I will share other things later but got to work around here for a few hours. That kidney info I wanted to share with you now.Because I worry about my organs and esp my kidneys since they are already affected in some way.

Thank You a bunch for the reminder.I also worry about all my organs. It is a major thing for me but honestly am not the best eater.I was eating broccoli a couple times a week but slacked.Gotta go back to it.The reason I was eating it was because of the antioxidents. Now I see it is better than I thought for me.Kidney cancer preventer.

    A little more.
1.A little more on what to do to prevent kidney cancer. As I mentioned above broccoli. And it says only 1/2 cup serving 2 times a week. Not much.Cuts your chance of kidney cancer by 44%.WOW!!!! I forgot that on my above post.

2.People who drink 12 or more cups of fluids daily are 50% less likely to develop kidney cancer than folks who drink 5 or fewer glasses of fluid a day. I suspected this.I am GUILTY.I don't drink enough.

3.THE BLADDER.Bladder cancer is often overlooked because doctors think you have a bladder infection but it very well could be cancer.I agree.I was tested for cancer after a few other things didn't work.First I didn't have a infection, then I did and then didn't.So it was over a month before the urologist tested me for bladder cancer. It was negative. Then I was tested for kidney cancer with the slight trace of blood.Kidney stones. So it can be passed off by doctors.I was a mess with worry.Only been dx 16 months with BC.Then took awhile for tests, doc appt meds etc till I found out stones and cyst of the kidneys that caused my slight bleeding.

Another guilty thing for me. I hold my urine. You MUST go to the bathroom more often to flush toxic compounds in urine out of the body.So urinate often to flush the bladder.Good point and it makes sense.

So I have been guilty of all.Never knew about the broccoli but was very aware of drinking but thought 64 ounces a day would be fine.8 glasses but we need 12 glasses or more.I don't drink alot.

Good post again from Love Baby Jesus.I just wanted to share some things I just HAPPENED upon yesterday when my husband had tests.

I have some heart things too but will start another post.Hope I can read my writing.

A note.I've never heard of heart cancer till several years ago. I know of a lady who had heart cancer.A tumor on the back of her heart. She was in her late 60's early 70's. She lived one month after dx. Her daughter-in law is my cousin.First heart cancer I heard of. Shocking.

    We can...
Do everything we are told, eat everything recommended, etc... Nothing , in my opinion, is going to stop one from developing cancer if "it's in the cards".....I have 3 friends, in particular, and a sister in law(ovarian) who have all had cancer...all of them were on top of their game in taking great care of themselves...watched what they ate, worked out, walked, never smoked, etc...one is even a vegetarian.....all normal weight...etc....two have bc...one ovarian, and she has been a health fanatic her entire life... and my dear friend who passed away in March with brain cancer...one with bc now has melanoma...

Not saying we shouldn't do what we feel is best...but I just don't believe we can prevent it by eating the "right foods"...I've eaten broccoli my entire life, and all veggies for that matter....I wish it were that simple! Truth of the matter is...there is no prevention....sad but true....I about drove myself and my oncologist crazy trying to figure out how I got bc...and what caused it...no family history..I researched and researched for weeks...His response and my surgeon's response...." we don't know what caused it or how to prevent it"...all seem to agree it's environmental...so that leaves a "cazillion" causes....

    I had family history
I had family history and also benign tumors since I was 20.Oh and I am not a good eater at all.So what I am saying isn't what I always do.I did start broccoli since it has antioxidents. I also have to agree it is in the cards also. I look at my friend. She did everything right. She is living after 16 years. My mom well she did fair with her lifestyle(foods stress etc) and she lived 60 years. My niece(double mascetomy)is still living after 6 years. Her and her husband smoke constantly but they respect others who don't.With my niece only being 36 I hope she will realize she needs to quit smoking. It could be lung cancer next.

The bladder thing seems right and what we should do.Keep the bladder flushed and drink alot. That makes sense to me.

I wish I was a better eater and ate alot of meat and protein but I don't.My blood works comes out good everytime. At least I never hear anything about it being bad.

If you are dx with a invasive cancer I don't think things would be easy. You don't know what to do. You feel it is lurking and just waiting to come out.Even me with non invasive cancer I think about it. As we all Hear.Early detection saves lives.

    and our cardiovascular system
Don't forget that. Eating healthy is just what it is - healthy overall. I think it's important whether it prevents cancer or not. And life is too short not to have that cheeseburger, fries and a milkshake sometimes.
