Also, go to google and enter keyword "breast cancer surgeons in TN" It gives you a few listings. Also use keyword "breast Oncology in TN".

    Contact our local ACS office.
Contact your local ACS office. It's in your phone book or at least the national number and they will be happy to give you the local number. Contact your state/local medical board for info on Drs/facilities in your area. Or even look in the phone book and call and ask question. I'm certainly not saying to choose by an ad in the phone book but you can get input/info.

    Finding a 2nd Opinion oncologist
Everyone who posted before me gave you good suggestions. I have 2 for you myself. (1) Tell doctor #1 you would like to get a 2nd opinion and ask him who he would suggest. (2)When I want to find a doctor (I have a PPO) I always make sure to look at my insurer's website and find out what doctor is In Network within a certain radius of my home.

Good luck. There are a lot of decisions to be made during this journey. IRENE

    Where in middle TN, Corinna?
My beloved Moopy was born in Lawrenceburg and got her BA and MA from MTSU.

I know it's kind of a drive, but I would strongly recommend Dr. Barbra Horn, who is associated with Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. The ending to our story was not a happy one, but Dr. Horn will always have my undying gratitude for helping Moopy and me fight the beast with everything we could.

    Best,
    Joe

oncologist is Dr. Raymond Brig from TN Cancer Specialists..also in Knoxville.
I live in Crossville so it's a hike to Knoxville.

Thanks so much everyone for the good advice!
I spoke with my Dr. and as it turns out he is changing his schedule so I can have surgery next Mon the 23rd! I have still waited longer than I wanted to but at least I'm on the books.
Now I'm going through pre-surgery jitters! As an RN I have assisted many intubations/procedures and I know just enough to stay up all night worrying. Now I'm wondering if I should stay overnight instead of going home the same day. I'm having segmental mastectomies with reconstruction on both breasts. Having nightmares of bleeding to death at home while my husband watches TV in the next room... sigh... I'm just a basket case.
How long did you ladies stay in hospital after your surgeries?
