Did you ever try to 'condition' your synthetic wig and it 'smell like bacon'?

I'm askig incase someone has some ideas. A young woman (younger than 18) at the horse site I go to a lot is going hrough chemo. She said that her synthetic wig was 'dry' so she used some kind of spray on conditioner on it. It now smells like bacon and she has 4 days til Prom. Any ideas/help? My suggestin was to call the store she got it at.

Help that I can pass on!

Susan

    I went to Sally's
and bought some special wash for my synthetic wig. It didn't have much of a smell, but I suppose she could wash it and put a few drops of perfume in the rinse water. Mine never smelled like bacon...very odd.

I got the cleaner/conditioner that was rcommended by the manufacturer for my wig when I go it. She says that her wig was "dry" so she sprayed some 'spray on leave in' hair conditioner on it. Her wig is quite long.

    Maybe the safest
would be to call the manufacturer or a good salon/wig store. I was advised not to get a long haired wig because with the rubbing on the shoulders it would not hold up. I washed mine about every 15 wearings. I didn't usually wear a wig, perferring scarves for everyday. Now my hair is coming in thick, salt and pepper and is about 1.5 inches long, so my wig just sits on my dresser looking a bit forlorn. I don't know if I'll ever wear it again, although it is pretty--it is blond and I no longer am!

    Well she's young (under 18)
Well she's young (under 18) and had long hair so she wanted a wig that was close to what she was. I've seen pictures of her with her hair and with her wig and looks the same - except wig is just a shade lighter (or could have been the lighting in the pictures). If I remember right she's had it 3 weeks, maybe 4 weeks.

Perhaps, to get the bacon smell out of it an oxi-based solution is needed. Maybe even just a hydrogen perioxide with water rinse might do it. (Test first in small area!) At Wal-Mart, in the candle section, they have a whole slew of odor-neutralizing room sprays that cost around $1.50. I had a friend mistake one of these sprays for a body/perfume spray! She was fine with no skin irritation or anything as a result...

    Has...
Has she simply washed it with wig shampoo? Has she been around bacon frying? Synthetic wigs can take on the odor of surrounding areas...I washed mine once a week, at least.....

Bless her heart....let us know what happens...
