New milestone - 5K

I can now check off another milestone on my list! Our local breast care alliance held the 14th annual 5k walk/run yesterday. I was determined to do this and was hoping that with all my body has been through in the last 10 months it was on the same page as my heart and mind. There were between 300 and 400 walkers. Each survivor was given a pink carnation to wear and we had our picture taken as a group with the pink VW convertable from a local insurance agent whose mother died of breast cancer some time ago. There were a number of people walking with/for me but a little group of 4 of us started out near the front and set a pretty good pace. We made it in in just under 57 minutes. Pretty good for this 57 year-old tired body I think. Of course I had to take a nap yesterday afternoon but still feel pretty good about this accomplishement. Too many people were surprised that I was walking and weren't sure I would make it the whole way. Guess that's what convinced my body to keep going and prove to them it could be done.

I wish everyone the same success in the milestone check list!

Blessings to one and all!

    Good job, Skipper
I love how you were determined to prove that "Yes, you could make it all the way." You should feel proud and empowered.

    Congratulations, Skipper!
What a wonderful accoplishment. I'm 57 also, and I know what you mean. Naps are great. I bet you're smiling so much your cheeks hurt!

    I completed my first walk
I completed my first walk shortly after my bilateral surgery when I was 57. I know what you mean about keeping going and proving that it can be done. I needed a nap afterward as well. I'm now 60 and walked a 5k yesterday (in almost an hour and 20 minutes, lol) with some friends on a glorious day.

Congratulations to you (and many more fine 5k's). xoxoxo Lynn

You make me look bad, skipper! :-)
Congratulations on proving those doubters wrong, and -- more importantly -- doing something to remind yourself how strong you are.

I walked my first-ever 5K when I was 7 months out of treatment, and clocked in at 1 hour and 20 minutes -- and I'm only 41! You're making me look bad!

(and yes, there was definitely a nap afterwards!)

    Good for you!
    You go girl!

We had the Komen walk here yesterday. I thought about going down to cheer everyone on, but even though my heart said yes, my legs said no. It would have been a walk just to get to the venue.

Very impressive feat! (and feet!) You must feel so proud. I'm not sure that my old 59-year-old body could have done that!
