Hair color and rinses

So, lucky me, the hair is coming back mostly gray. But, it is coming back...slowly. My MO said it's okay to color it but to use a rinse rather than a permanent color. Any recommendations on brands to use?

    I'll trade hair
I'll trade with you - I was so hoping that I'd get grey after hair came back - no such luck - in fact the very few grey I had left. So I'm a 64 y/o and I have very dark brown (almost black but not quite) hair NATURALLY (Inherited from Daddy side of the family - nobody ever got grey while Mom's side got grey very young.)

Before I let my grey grow
Before I let my grey grow out, I used Loving Care by Clairol (if I wanted a rinse). It last about 6-12 shampoos and is very gentle.

    Loving Care is a 'semi'
Loving Care is a 'semi' permanent - not a rinse. Roux FanciFull is a rinse.

    Natural Instincts..
Is what I used..it is a semi permanent....very gentle...it lasts about 28 shampoos...but it lasts for me about 3 months or longer...
I colored the first time when my hair was about an inch long....couldn't believe all the gray when it grew back...top and sides very salt and pepper and the back my natural dark brown...but hey! It was hair....

    Good luck,

    I've taken this
opportunity to let my hair go natural. It grew in (about 1 1/2 inches since end of January) salt and pepper (mostly salt) and what a shock! It had been 40 years since I had seen my natural color. Everyone I know likes it grey and short--they tell me I look very "professional". I just had to go to a job interview (found out my office is closing the day I finished treatment, I needed to find a new job) and--I GOT THE JOB!! They didn't ask about my health and I didn't offer any explanations on why my hair was so short and grey. It is definitely a new look for me--one that I wouldn't have chosen, but not having to dye it every three weeks sounds so wonderful (and cheaper) to me...just a thought, perhaps you'll discover that you look good natural?
Do whatever makes YOU feel good.

    I've used permanent color
I've used permanent color since my hair came back. It came in salt and pepper then went all gray.
No damage at all and it is thick and healthy now.

    I've used permanent color.....
since my hair grew back in all grey. Not salt and pepper, like I was hoping for, but pure grey. I will be 55 next month and feel I am to young to have all grey hair so that is why I dye it. It makes me feel like I look younger.

Since I have to wash my hair every day (it's very oily) a rinse doesn't last long enough for me. It's out in a week so....my doctor didn't say anything about using permanent color so I just went back to the color I used before I was diagnosed.

    Thanks
Thanks for all the info, everyone. I am grey on top and salt and pepper around the sides and back. It will soon be time to color it because the weather is getting too hot for the wig or even scarves.

I have colored my hair for years. When my hair started coming back it was almost pure white. I of course happy to see my hair coming back. I waited eight months after my last chemo and six months after my last radiation. Has anyone else found that when they had their hair colored the color didn't take or when it did take it was much darker than intened. First time I went in the color did not take at all. I was going from white to light blond. My hairdresser redid it the same day and it took although it was still very light. I went back a very weeks later and we decided one shade darker would work. My hair came out very dark brown. It took a bleaching and then highlights to get it lightened up a bit. I have been going to my hairdresser for more than 20 years. The white hair wasn't horrible but it wasn't me when I looked in the mirror. I am just trying to go back to "normal"
