Pathology report and update for my Mom, Thingy45

Options
Hi everyone, well we're 6 days post op, the last 3 days were not fun, Moms sat levels dropped, chest X-rays showed pneumonia in right lung,.
This really tired her out and left her kinda down, lots of pain, nausea and frustration. However she still got up and walked as well as sat for long periods of time. The past 2 days she was really down and miserable.
Today was complete opposite, no more cath, no more oxygen, AND her bowels started working again!!!
Doctor is very happy with her progress, and she seemed in better spirits as well.

Doctor gave me a copy of pathology report......Here are just a few tidbits...
Rectosigmoid colon resection, adenocarcinoma, well differentiated, with evidence of perforation and adherence to portion of small bowel

PT4a N0 pMX

All lymph nodes examined, negative for tumor!
Both the small bowel and the rectum samples taken showed no cancer except> " although the adjacent small bowel does not show tumor, tumor cells are present on the inked radial margin of the main resection specimen ( rectosigmoid colon)

Tumor site sigmoid colon
Tumor size 4.5 cm
Tumor perforation present
Low grade ( well-differentiated to moderately differentiated)
Margins: circumferential or Mesentric margin; involved by invasive carcinoma ( tumor present 0-1mm from margin)

So Im still not sure of her prognosis, but good news I think considering no mets!

Anyone know what the pt4a means??

Thanks, thinking of you all and thanking you for your good thoughts & prayers,
Mriam

    Thanks Graci & Judy,

    Thanks Graci & Judy,

I am so proud of her. It's been such an experience for her. She's usually the caregiver, and fiercely independent.
Actually her partner and I joke with her that if she could have done the surgery herself, she would have. ; )
I take a lot of comfort from knowing that we have an excellent doctor. He has been so wonderful. That in my opinion is half the battle.
No problem with all the jargon, I'll figure it all out eventually. Doctor called it "locally advanced disease" and was very surprised that no mets to rectum or small bowel as it had attached to both, he said she was very lucky!
I'm off to see her now, will check in later.
    (( hugs ))

Glad the two of you are doing good and glad mom is feeling good
as for your question..."No problem with all the jargon, I'll figure it all out eventually. Doctor called it "locally advanced disease" and was very surprised that no mets to rectum or small bowel as it had attached to both, he said she was very lucky!" The term PT4a is a term used for staging that lets you know that the tumor has attached to adjacent structures, you already know that so that shouldn't be any surprise to you or her...I am glad that her spirits are up. The journey has ups and downs, take it all in stride and one step at a time, don't take upsets to hard for we all have them and be sure to celebrate all victories large or small. Most of all "feel the love" .......buzz

Thanks pepe, Tina, Lisa & Buzz,

Actually mom did not get released today, she is far too weak, not eating much and tonight she presented with swollen feet/ankles and an allergic rash all over her upper body ! Not sure what that's all about, but she has the compression stockings on again.
    We'll see what tomorrow brings.....

buzz, I didn't realize that's what the pt4a meant, thanks for the clarity.

Thanks again for the support, I hope to someday be a support to all of you,
    Really appreciate it. Xox
