Low white blood cell count.

I went for my 1st treatment on 4/8 and the following week had a horrible time of it. The next week was actually decent however when I went back for my 2nd treatment I couldn't take it because my white blood cell counts were too low. So, I was scheduled to come back this Friday for treatment. Last Saturday I started feeling horrible again; like after the 1st treatment; fatigue, nausea and really bad headaches. By Tuesday I couldn't go into work and Tuesday night I ended up in the hospital ER and they kept me until Thursday. My white blood cell count was down to .2. They got it back up but not enough. I also had very low blood pressure, was dehydrated and running a fever. I went in yesterday for treatment and again my white and red blood cell count were low. He said the white was up but if they gave me my treatment, I'd probably end up back in the hospital by Tuesday. Now I'm shooting again for this Friday. This is so frustrating; I never thought I'd be disappointed to not get a treatment. My Onc is planning out how he's going to handle my treatment going forward. I'm nervous because of the mets to my liver. I'm afraid this delay is going to allow the lesions to grow or spread. Has anyone had a rough start like this to their treatments?

Thx.

Pam

I was the same way- was
I was the same way- was hospitaled with a blood infection the day I was to get treatment number 2. My white blood cells had tanked. Has your oncologist talked about Neupogen shots? I got them for severall weeks, my WBC like went way high- then had treatment number 2 and never had issues with counts again.

I have 2 treatments left. I have had two delays and felt determined to "will" my counts up lol. I hated the delay. The lowest mine has been was at my last treatment where the neutrophils were 0.7. I have felt very weak and tired so I can just imagine how you feel. Rest rest rest for you and stay home!! Even there wash your hands often. You take care Pam!

    Love and hugs, Gail

Thanks Gail. I'm so excited for you that you only have 2 treatments left. I am hopeful and taking in lots of fluids and calories. Never thought I'd say it but I hope I can get treatment this Friday.

    Love,

Thanks for responding! I will be taking the shots after my pump is disconnected starting with my next treatment. Thanks....that gives me hope that I won't have low blood counts again.

I had issues also with my white count. I had the Nupregen shots ( up to 4 shots after ech session of chemo) My onoc then switched to Nulasta ( just one shot) until my chemo was over. I never had a delay after that
