    Family fun
Last year we started a new tradition of camping for a week with friends that moved to Oregon. We use to camp a couple times a year with them before I had kids (they had some but not me, it had been over 5 years since I had camped). now we go camping at a lake between us. there are three families 9 kids between us ranging from 15 to 2 years old. this year will be our second year.
We tent camp, go out on our friends boat daily the kids love it. I have to say I was a bit afraid of camping with all our kids but it turned out great and this year we are taking our puppy just to add a bit of excitement. I really hope we will be able to keep up the tradition for years to come!

    Sorry doesn't sound like
Sorry doesn't sound like you're doing what I consider 'camping'! To me - 'camping' is either hiking in with all your needs on your back or what I prefer - packing in with your 'stuff' on your pack horses/mules and me on a horse to carry me. I was a back country guide in the Great Pacific NW (WA) for several years - so to me staying in a 'camper' in a basically 'parking lot' is just a small motel room.

YEah I know - not everybody can do what I've done or can do (with our horses) but driving into a "Camp Ground" in a vehicle and/or pulling something just isn't 'camping' to me.

Have I ever stayed in a "camper" - YUP - and I/we (friend is going) will be staying in one the night before the Crazy Horse Memorial Volks Marche this June. But with my 'background' that's not 'camping' to me.

Have a great time - just not what is 'camping' to me.

    ahh see your point susan
    I see RVs as not camping...they have tv/ ac/ shower/electric etc..

my camping consists of dry spot to sleep and we do all outside...cook on fire, dishes, walk to bathroom and ride bikes to store and shower.

funny how each have our idea of camping...

ONLY SPOILED camping we have done was at Disney World, sewer, electic , cable and blacktop pad...

I have spent many a nights in leaky tent dripping on me etc...but all great memories..we also canoe, fish, boat, bike and hike of course..

    Sounds like camping to me
But you have to understand--my idea of camping is staying in a Holiday Inn as opposed to the Ritz-Carlton! I'm such a baby! I really admire the real "campers." And from what I've heard, it's tons of fun.

Happy camping--however you choose to "camp"!

    Fun
Yes we leave after breakfast and come back for dinner. I never considered myself much of a boat person but we have so much fun and the kids can't wait to do it again the next day. I mostly sit in the shade and watch. that will have to be me this year too because of the rads and I wont have my reconstruction surgery done. I am looking forward to it. Yours sounds like even more fun then mine. I wish I had a close family but that is not how it is for me. Enjoy!

I have some many wonderful memories of my parents..(BOTH gone now) I have taken our grandsons since infants (NOW 4 & 6) They ask me daily..."are we going camping yet"? "when are we leaving"? etc...so cool for years we had 4 generations of my family camping at one time!

it does sound like a fun thing to do with the kids. I don't have grandkids yet, but I really could see that being fun. I think I would have to do a trailer of some sort--but that's kinda camping--right?!!

Have fun on all your outings.

Yes Trailer is camping...LIKE I SAID we had 24 ft class C RV...but never used most of the camping luxery items> (shower, oven, ac) we mainly just slept in it...it was nice though so my mom could come along...MY hubby now sleeps in tent most night with grand kids (our two adult girls come when they can..but not whole trips both in college and working)

we have camper that slide in back of truck...very tiny..can reach fridge, stove and one drawer from table..hehe..no need to get up..

    good times...

    LOVE TO CAMP
Yes we are avid campers, we do the trailer thing as I am far too old with too many issues due to cancer to sleep on the ground anymore. We did the tent thing for many years, but once I had cancer and issues that come with it I said no more tents so we up-scaled and will be up-scaling again in a few years as we get ready to tour the U.S. with my brother in-law and his wife. Most of our camping is dry camping where we travel to unincorporated unpopulated spots and drop our gear for a week, no running water, no electrical, (our rv does not have that, but our next one will). This allows us to get out there and hike, bike or just relax cooking on the open fire while sitting around it watching the little ones play whatever imaginary game they come up with. We usually have a group of anywhere from 5 to 15 of us it depends on who can make it. We play wiffle ball, horse shoes, tag, hide n seek, who can stuff the most masrshmellows in their mouth, board games, we read and tell stories around the fire while we enjoy the presence of each other. Camping is a great way to re-connect with loved ones.

I am part of "Camp Renee"~my
I am part of "Camp Renee"~my family never went camping~ though we lived in Germany for over 20 years, and traveled to Italy for summer vacations every other year ( the odd years we flew to New York for the summer vacations), we ALWAYS stayed in hotels! My parents introduced us to fascinating, mostly delicious and interesting local cuisines, and I admit to being spoiled!
I was over 50 when I met Reggie and once a year he and fellow Tribal members camp as part of the annual ocean journey to their ancestral home. I had never been camping even once in my entire life!!! Suddenly I was camping with Reggie and the Tribe~ YIKES!!! We have to get to the island by boat, and from there it is a rough it weekend. It is over a 1/2 mile walk from the shore to the campsite, and it is pack in, pack out. No campfires allowed, only propane~ no showers, but thankfully, porta-potties. (OMG was I just thankful for porta-potties???) About 200 or so of us spend the weekend, and there are island foxes, which are about the size of housecats running all over the place, hoping to steal food. There used to be wild pigs~ a few years ago they were all killed. Sad but true. They were not indiginous, and were destroying the native habitat.
It is a spiritual weekend~ no drugs ( duh) and no alcohol. When we take the commercial boat back to the Mainland on Sunday evening, 4 of us have the habit of buying and drinking an ice cold beer!! Ahhhhhhhh! :-)

So, I have camped 5 times all since meeting Reggie. I couldn't pitch a tent if my life depended on it, and originally I had no idea how on earth to make coffee on a campstove with those aluminium coffee pots! I still can't put up a tent~ but I can make coffee!

I am glad it is only once a year...I love seeing the Tribal members and friends who come from afar for this spiritual gathering, but I am really and truly NOT a camper!

I'll camp with Renee and Chen anytime
My idea of camping is any hotel without room service. I'm sure it's fun just not for me. I'm allergic to every green growing thing outside and hve no desire to be around bugs, creatures and crawly things.

For all who enjoy though, have a great time.

    I love camping!
I grew up in Maryland and we camped from Maine to Florida, and as far west as the Mississippi.
Many of my best memories are in our pop-up, no RR though, and we grilled outside. Each night we built a fire and just enjoyed being together. During the day, we hiked, swam, or whatever there to do nearby, or at the campground.

For my daughters, we have tent-camped, and stayed at KOA cabins. Our favorite place was Ft. Wildnerness at Disney World. Now, their idea of camping is a cruise, or a nice hotel. :)

As for me, I am looking at some places in the Adirondacks on Lake Champlain.
    Any ideas?

    Used to camp more
I love camping and used to take my Girl Scout troop on a regular basis. Also hiked the Appalachian Trail but it was considered safer to do that with a group of girls then. As I've gotten older I enjoy the out-of-doors but like a cabin with running water, electricity, and indoor john. We still build a campfire outside and enjoy the hiking and the wildlife though.

    We are campers!
Although my hiker/backpacker friends call me a 'cadillac camper'. I've never been spry enough to on sleep on the ground. A couple and their teenage kids got us into camping, she helped us pick out our 1st camper, a pop-up. We started when my daughter was 6 and camped about 5 times between Memorial Day & Columbus Day. Sometimes with group, sometimes just us. NY has marvelous state parks.

Our daughter is married now, but she and her hubby join us on the 2 trips we do at Memorial Day & Labor Day. And the dogs go crazy when we start getting the camper ready.

    Where do you camp, Denise?

    We're canoe campers!
Canoe camping is sort of a blend of backpacking and car camping. You get out into the wilderness, but you can bring a FEW more comforts and food because weight isn't as much of an issue.

We didn't get out at all last year. Hoping to get back into canoing this year. Our youngest is now in college and chemo, radiation and herceptin are a thing of the past (just had my last herceptin last Thursday)

    Camping
I've never done walk in camping, although that is my daughters preferred vacation. I have camped for most of my life, but gave up tent camping about 10 years ago after getting caught in one too many SD storms (having to stand in the middle of the tent to try to keep it up). The next day I actually caught a fully assembled tent in the river while fishing. Ever since then it has been either a camping cabin or camper. First camping trip of the year is planned for mid-May.
