Hello everyone!!

I haven't been on for a few weeks. I have been hospitalized twice with bowel obstructions. I was VERY lucky to have them resolve on their own over a few days in the hospital. I am trying to go back to work. I am a nurse in an Emergency room. I have been on medical leave since Feb 2010. Since I was gone for so long the hospotal had to "terminate" me but has always told me that they would take me back as soon as I was able. I start back to work on May 26th. I am SOOO happy to be going back!!! The only thing raining on my parade is the dr's office. Since I don't start until May 26th, I need the Dr to write a note stating that I will be out of work till may 26th then will be permitted to go back on a part time basis. Now the office manager tells me that they don't think they can write the note for me.I need it so my disability insurance will pay me until the 26th so I don't have a lapse of 6 weeks in my income.AND the office manager said "who said you can only go back part time?" like insinuating that I am a lazy piece of crap and only want to go back as little as possible. You would think that since they are in the office of the doctor that did my surgery and took care of me through all of my chemo and hospitalizations they would have an idea of what I went through? being diagnosed with 3C ovarian cancer, major debulking and bowel resections, The 11 times I was in the hospital for blood clots or dehydration because the chemo made me so sick i couldn't keep anything down, all the nerve damage and neuropathy from the chemo, the bowel issues since the 2 resections, not to mention all the abdominal pain from the IP chemo. Why are they making me feel like a piece of crap about this? I would love nothing more than to go back full time, working all the hours i used to just like nothing happened but i can't. If i spend the day out doing something, i have to spend a day to recooperate. I don't have the stamina i used to. I used to be able to work 5-6 12 hour days in a row and still have energy to go boating or scuba diving on the weekends with my husband. Now i'm lucky if i can get through a day of cleaning the house without needing a break. Who do they think they are? If my job required me to sit in an office, i could have went back months ago. I don't know who I'm more mad at, them for thinking they know me or me for letting them get to me and make me so angry that i cried over this silly crap.UUUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! so sorry to vent all this crap here. i just think that the office staff there need to take some classes on empathy. It's not the first time they have made me feel like this. dumb bit**es!!! :) thank you for letting me vent.

    That is awful
Sandy, That is just awful. I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. I would definitely contact the doctor. I would tell him that you need a letter and see what he says. I wouldn't bring up what his staff said. If he says, sure just contact my staff....then you tell him what happened. I bet anything he will say something to them and he will tell them to do it.

    Good luck,

    Disgusting!
I would speak with the doctor in person, and I would definitely tell him what the office manager said, and name her! Your doctor has a right to know if his staff is making his patients feel anything negative at all! I once blew the whistle on my ob/gyn's office manager because she tried to give me my original records instead of copies. I felt bad for her, but I knew that it was a really wrong thing to do. My doctor was grateful.

    Sandy,

I am Angry for you! I agree with the other ladies. I would speak with the dr. directly.
That is not OK. We would sure think that an ONC office would have emphathy but that is not always the case. I learned a lesson last month at my ONC office. My ONC's assistant left and was replaced with one of my favorite chemo nurses ... Catch 22:(
But I told him that I was very lukewarm about his past asst of 8 years. He said SO many of his patients had told him that - but he wished they would have let him know at the time
and he would have let her go much sooner.

Good Luck with returning to work. Don't apologize for your stamina. It is what it is. Do your best ... listen to your body ... rest when you need to. Try your best not to allow others to bully you!

I agree with all the ladies!
That kind of insensitivity is not acceptable from anyone whether patient or co-worker. And as Lea said it best, "Do your best ... listen to your body ... rest when you need to. Try your best not to allow others to bully you!"

    Sandy, I applaude your enthusiasm
about going back to work. You have been through so much it would be absolutely ok if you decided to stay at home on the couch in front of the tv eating bon bons. But you choose to put yourself out there and that is commendable. Those b*tches as you say have no idea what you have been through. I would definately speak with the doctor. I had a bad experience with a the gastro doctor who did my initial cat scan. He told me my diagnosis over the phone (said it was stage IV, later confirmed to be stage IIIc by my gyn/onc) and told me there was nothing that could be done for me. I flat told my onc that I would never go back to that doctor again. Best of luck when you head back to work. I'm sure your patients will appreciate your compassion.

    I agree
I agree with everyone else. My doctor's office has never treated me like that. I am going back to work part time in May after being out for a year and I have a desk job! Most disability insurance companies have a form that should be filled out for returning to work and most doctors' offices have a person(s) who deal with insurance forms and employers. You need to speak to the doctor about his staff and deal directly with the insurance person. Those people should be ashamed of themselves for treating patients so poorly. Good luck and glad you feel well enough to go back to work. Keep us posted.

    THANK YOU!!!
Thank you all!!! I feel much better now that I know it's not me!!!! I was at one point thinking, maybe I should be better by now? what's wrong with me? But thanks to you guys, I now know that it's then and not me!!! :) I usually don't let what people think bother me. I don't know why this did. I guess because I know I'm a hard worker AND i have been through hell for over a year and it just pissed me off that the office staff can trivialize (sp) what we go through. I did go to the office to speak with the doctor but he was in surgery. I have an appt with him next month and I will bring it up then. Thank you guys So much!! Once again the ladies of this board have made me feel much better!!!!

    ((((HUGS))))
