In World War II my uncle was a flight mechanic in the Army Air Force and was assigned to fly Eddie Rickenbacker to New Guinea from Hawaii on a top secret mission. The flight went down in the Pacific and my uncle spent over three weeks at sea with 8 other men, sustained only by occassional rainwater, a couple of unlucky seagulls and his faith.

Because of the stories my uncle had told me of his time out at sea, I have always been interested in similar stories, so it was with great interest I picked up Laura Hillenbrand's book, "Unbroken." Her book tells the story of another crew that went down in the Pacific and subsequent treatment of two of the men in a Japanese POW camp.

I am always on the lookout for books that tell of extreme courage in the face of great adversity. I find these books inspiring, and I try and find a way to apply their message to my own illness. I highly recommend this book to anyone here that is looking to read of great courage and strength and an unbelievable will to live. The book is well-researched, extremely well-written and very captivating. I enjoyed this book even more than Hillenbrand's other novel, "Seabiscuit."

On another note I had my scan results returned yesterday. To recap, I am 27 months from liver resection and colon surgery and 17 months from chemo. My scan was all clear. Yahoo! My doctor has moved me from scans every 12 weeks to scans every 16 weeks. Babystep, but I will take it.

Best to you all,
Amy
