Onco test results

I've had 3 onco tests with 3 different results.. Oncologists said different parts of the tumor can be different types of cancer. So now we are not sure whether hormone positive or negative, HER 2 positive or negative. One test even came back triple negative. Long story short, I've had a lumpectomy and radiation, no chemo. Oncologist said that I will be monitored very closely and because tumor was very small and no node involvement, I will be checked every 3 mos. by oncologist and every 6 mos for a mammy along with X rays etc to be sure that there are no changes. I'm so confused because there is not a difinitive dx and so they don't know how to treat.Oncologist still gives a good prognosis.

Anyone else out there the same as me? This cancer is confusing enough without this.

Thanks for all the support and help on the sight. It's so nice to speak to people who have been there.

    Good grief!
I thought the oncotype test was supposed to clarify things! I do remember being told the test may yield different results than the original biopsy and mine did. Oncotype showed I was also progesterone receptor positive. Oncologist said that information would not change the treatment plan. Then why do they test for it?

The only advice I can give you is get a second opinion if you're not comfortable with this.

    2nd opinion
I did have a 2nd opinion and that is why the 3rd test. I guess I'm confortable with the oncologist-I just am having a hard time wrapping my head around all of this. I too thought the Onco test would clarify, but instead I know have different results.
The way the oncologist explained it is that the part of the tumor that was sent for the test each time was different. I think he called it a homogenous tumor.

I think I am as confused as
I think I am as confused as you are Denise. But, the good thing is that your oncologist is on top of this and will be keeping a close eye on you. That is great and just what we want!

I also thought the oncotype test clarified everything. This is the test that states whether you need chemo or not, isn't it? I thought they gave you an actual number, the low ones for no chemo, the medium ones for no too, and, right on the number and above meant you needed chemo.

Or, are you talking about the pathology report?

I do know some sisters that were told they had DCIS, but, after surgery and the path report, it stated they had DCIS and IBC, so, the path report can vary from the original diagnosis from just the biopsy.

    You're right Sue
I did have the onco test-with 3 different results. The numbers were 10, 24 and 50. I do feel good that the oncologist is keeping a close eye on me.Oncologist said that because of my health background and the small size of the tumor, he doesn't think I should have chemo. I thought about it and chose to go that way. I can only hope and pray that it was the right choice.
