Pain above feeding tube

My husband has been having pain above his feeding tube and it has gotten worse. I want him to contact our internist, but after talking to the surgeon's nurse he wants to wait to see his surgeon in Portland. We are going there Friday for a check and he will have a three month catscan. The nurse said it sounded like a abscess. Has anyone had this or knows about them? I have researched and it doesn't sound good. I think he needs to go to the ER and have it checked as if it gets bad it can cause Sepsis and more. When he makes up his mind he can be very stubborn! Of course my mind goes straight to "could it be cancer again???" This has been a rough ride for him, but on a good note he ate my homemade spaghetti tonight and said it tasted good! He is holding his weight after decreasing his cans of food from 6 to 4.

    Hello Linda
Sorry you are having yet one more problem! Sounds to me like it is some kind of infection, not cancer. I do not have any experience with feeding tubes. Men stubborn???? Really??? You know what they say...Men are from Mars!! I am sure if left untreated it could turn much worse, but Friday is not too far away. Give him his way and get it checked in Portland. I would clean it often with peroxide or anti bacterial solution. Did the nurse say how to clean the area? I will be praying for you both. Let us know how you make out at the appt.

    pain
    Hi Tina,

Thank you for your prayers, we both appreciate them! The pain is inside, there is no outside redness or open skin. If he is inactive it doesn't bother him too much. If he even walks it makes it hurt. He has a oncologist appointment tomorrow, so I am going to call the nurse and ask if he might need more bloodwork done, and have the doctor poke around, even though it isn't his specialty. Maybe if he tells Jim he needs to have tests done, he will listen.
