Today was bittersweet. I arranged the movers to take everything from mom's apartment back to her house. She had a glorious 3 months in her new home, October thru January, but that's over now. The staff were as warm and caring as usual. They all asked about her.

It was then I went and visited with my mom. It was an altered person I saw, but I saw glimpses of my 'old' mom, as well. They had not been using her hearing aids, and so when I insisted they insert them, she came a bit more to life! But still not very good. Thankfully, she is not in pain, but is rail thin and drifts in and out...hospice is on board, and she will be moved to a board-and-care as soon as there is room.

I didn't want to get too close, because I still am battling the flu/cold from Holland. But I sat and talked with her (or to her, more accurately *smile*).

It was a tough day...but part of life. She is a breast and endometrial cancer survivor. One strong lady, in her time. I hope she has found peace.

Hugs, Kathi

    Mom
    Kathi,

I am so sorry to hear that your mom isn't doing well. I know how hard it is to see her as she has changed. My mother had a massive stroke at age 90 and was no longer able to communicate, although she seemed to understand some things. She lived in a beautiful private care home until her death at age 96. I'm sure it was a living nightmare for her not to understand what had happened, but the people she lived with were very kind. She and Johnnybegood were very close, but I know that she must be in a better place with my father.

    My heart is with you,

    Wolfen

    Dear Kathi
I am glad you had a chance to visit with your mom, even if it was bitter sweet. I am glad to hear that she is not in pain. We can only hope that the place her mind goes when she drifts in and out is somewhere beautiful and serene.

    Take care of that cold.

Hugs to you and your mom.

Kathi...something we all will have to face but no, its hard
to know what the outcome will be but there has to be some type of solace to see the life she has lived and the longevity of it...All you have been through and still look at you, always there for everyone and always heartwarming...Your the apple of your moms eye Im sure so that tells us in knowing you we can feel aware of just how great your mother is and has been all of her life...I can tell that the zest and love you have for all things suggest that your mom has that same zest for life....May her days with you be very special, as they have been all your life.............big hugs...Clift

Hey there Kathi, I'm new around here, but your situation reminded me of what my wife and I went through a few years back when her dad fought and lost the battle with cancer. It's incredibly hard to see someone fade to a shadow of their former selves, but you have to hang on to the fact that what we see is a mere tip of the iceberg to what they are, and what they are is eternal.

May your days with your mother be joyous and tender, and filled with love. Cherish each one of them that you can and remember that you're not alone.

    Kathi,
    I'm so sorry to read

    Kathi,

I'm so sorry to read about your mom. I didn't know she was on hospice. It's really hard when it's your parents. I mean they were always so strong. Always there for you. Now it's your turn to be there for your mom.

You're all in my prayers, girl.

Love and hugs to you, my dear

    Holly

    Thank you, all!!!!
    I feel the hugs!

Mom fell out of a wheelchair yesterday. Nothing broken that they know of, but just another thing. Saw the board-and-care she will go to, it's very nice!

    Hugs back, Kathi
