Help-probable mets to liver

I finally need some help. I did not find this site till after chemo and having been hanging around ned, posted when I felt I could relate to a problem. I am 3B 3/30 nodes positive. 7 rounds of folfox--bad reaction. I had a pet scan because of c scan results, probably mets to liver. Onc is going to have biopsy done to be sure. So if it is cancer he thinks surgery, rfa, or another procedure, implanting something in liver. I was diagnose 12/08, surgery right ascending colon, last chemo 5/09. Just wanted feedback to what you feel is best if I am positive. We feel surgery would be great. Onc will let me know when I go back in 2 week what he feels...he does not want to do chemo because I really had a a bad reaction.. I would appreciate any feelings you might have about what would be best. I don't like surgery, but tha seems most sensible, if possible. Any comments would be appreciated.......Pat

I am sorry you may have liver mets. I am sorry; I can't offer my own experience; I have liver mets but have only had chemo/biological treatment for them. I want to wish you all the best though, + please let us know what you find out. Hugs to you.

    Thanks Pepe
we don't want to jump the problem and assume it will be positive, but want to be prepared. Surgery, if possible, seems to be the best choice, will let the onc look it all over first. Thanks Pat

    Pat:
My husband had 2 liver biopsies recently. They were CT guided biopsies. Went to the hospital, he had IV medication so I do not believe he was awake but as soon as they stopped the IV he was. Anyway, they put him in the CT and inserted a needle through the abdomen into the liver and took the biopsy sample, took needle out, put on a bandaid and he was off to recovery. Had to stay there a couple hours per hospital procedure but he was wide awake, no pain at all, had something to drink and we came home. Our first biopsy showed only necrotic issue so onc ordered a second one and yep, positive that it was CRC met and not something new.

If you can get surgery, that would be great but I would discuss with the onc follow up chemo after surgery especially since you had problems the first time around with chemo. Generally, after liver surgery, it is followed with chemo. It really will depend on what they do if it is CRC met in the liver. Don't know if they do chemo after RFA. What do they want to implant in the liver, perhaps a HAI pump? If so, I have heard very good things about the HAI pump and several on the board have had it.

Take care, one step at a time, and let us know how you are doing. Everyone on the board is here for you through the good, the bad and the ugly.

    Hugs - Tina

    Thanks for info
the onc wants confirmation that it is cancer, he thought I had mets once before but I lucked out. Did not like the biopsy, was awake and it did hurt so I mentioned having something this time. I am trying to be proactive so I have time to think about what to do,but I'll see what he suggests, he sure wasn't keen on chemo for me. Like you say one step at a time. Thanks for infor. Pat
