question of weight

Before BC I was 147lbs. Now 130lbs. Lost all that weight during BC journey especially before dx. I saw the weight drop and thought hmm why am I losing so much weight! Little did I know but I suspected and froze with fear. Anyway, I don't bake banana and other breads as I did prior to bc, if I did the weight probably would come back. I'm trying not to eat too much sugar. Everyone says I look so skinny and my jeans are so baggy now.
Is anyone having this problem and are you all avoiding sweets most times?
Thanks for your input.
Annette

I was an always have been
I was an always have been very skinny. My weight has dropped during Chemo because of the SE issues and there is little to drop. Last night my husband wanted to watch a Nazi documentary. I said, "No, because I don't want to see so many of myself on the screen." BUT the ONC keeps track of my weight closely and if she is worried she'd tell me. I guess there is a medicine that will stimulate hunger.

If you are worried, you should speak to your Onc. Your self image is important, too. This battle is psychological as well.

    Banana bread sounds yummy!

I lost 45 lbs while on Chemo
I lost 45 lbs while on Chemo and Rads (Yes I too was on steroids). Got down to 130 lbs (5'6") - Chemo Dr was not happy with me. I wasn't 'sick' (nausea) -just had no appetite and no taste at all - Hubby would call me several times a day to remind me to eat something. Didn't have a problem with drinking water as it's basically a very established habit that I always have iced water close at hand no matter what I'm doing or not doing.

Taste came back fine but appetite still isn't what it was before. This is big problem for Hubby - he saw my Mother starve herself to death during the first 4 years we were married - she was a long time Anoritic (sp?) and he was/is petrified that I'll become one.

When I saw Dr T. early Feb for 6 mth check up I had gained about 10 lbs back - he was happy but I wasn't - have since taken close to 5 lbs back off via working out at the gym. Once spring finally gets here I'll drop the other 5 when I can get out in the yard for my gardening and mowing and getting the horses back in shape.

If you're concerned talk to your Dr (or his Nurse).

    I lost 35 during treatments,
I lost 35 during treatments, and so far it's staying off. I had the extra weight before to loose, so no worries about it. But yes, sweet things do not have the same appeal or taste as prior to chemo, most of it still tastes metallic or too sweet.

    Hugs,

    My weight stayed the same
My weight stayed the same during chemo (about 130lbs/5.5"), but I sure packed it on with the hormonal therapy...as I was hitting 150-152, I remembering giggling and wondering just how big I was going to get, LOL. But of late I've managed to get it down to a more acceptable level (~138). Just enough to benefit my osteo but not enough to make me feel yukky. I think the best weight is likely the one you feel your best at. I eat sugar and treats, just not on a regular basis.

    a little
I've lost a little weight but wasn't unhappy. I was told not to try to lose while in treatment but those days of no appetite did the trick. My oncologist told me to exercise more now that chemo is over so I joined Curves just to get moving and to help fight lymphedema while doing rads. I guess it worked and I've dropped a couple more pounds but nothing dramatic. I've had to stop the exercise for a while because of the burns and open skin but hope to get back soon.

I;ve gained during the 1st three months of chemo...
on steriods, then cut steriods to half dose and now my taste seems to be getting a bit "off" so less desire to eat. Starting a new treatment on Friday, April 1, FEC, so will see how that goes in terms of eating/gaining/losing.

I have plenty of weight to lose, so should not be a problem if I lose some; gaining is generally the problem for me.

I was able to maintain my weight
I was determined not to loose weight. I maintained it. I would eat yogarts, canned peaches, soups, puddings, eggs, or any soft foods (no raw foods) during chemo week. The following week I would eat a little more foods like baked fish, baked chicken. No spicy or fatty foods, and yes I reduced sugars. I would drink natural juices. Try "Naked Juice". and I would also drink as least one Boost everyday for protein.

The week before chemo I would eat everything I could, spagetti, steak, chicken, etc. I would also make sure to eat a big breakfast right before chemo. Don't forget to drink lots and lots of water. It work for me. I hope it works for you.

My weight has stayed the same,
I haven't gained nor lost one stinking pound. I walk every single day and I cannot lose for nothing, but I try. My oncologist has suggested I try, easier said than done.

I'm the opposite too. I eat mindlessly and have regained all the weight I had lost 18 months ago. Some of it I can blame on steroids but mostly it's my lack of will power. Kudos to you for losing and staying slim. I'm going to start a new weight loss program with my gyn in 2 weeks. I believe he is going to stop all sugars except fruit. I need all the help I can get.
