I have noticed over the last couple of weeks after exhertion I get a pain almost like heartburn in the middle of my chest but more on the right side. It only last about 5 minutes. Should I call my oncologist or just wait till I see her in May?

    Chest pain
    Hi sweetvickid,

It seems to me that to get pain in the middle of your chest after exertion is not "normal" under most circumstances. You don't know if the problem is cardiac in nature or whether it has something to do with having had cancer or even some other cause like reflux. I would not personally be satisfied waiting more than a month to find out what is going on. If it is cancer-related or cardiac related I do not see how you can benefit by waiting for more than a month to see the doctor. Please call your doctor asap. Let him/her decide if you need to come in for an office visit. You deserve to give your health the best chance you can. IRENE

Sweet Vicki ... Please call your doctor, first
thing tomorrow... Monday! If anything, he/she can put your mind at ease. Our health is nothing to fool around with, even more so after our journey with breast cancer.

    hugs for you!

    Best to check it out
No matter what it is, I think it is best to check it out now with your private care doctor and/or your oncologist. Two opinions never hurt. It is probably something harmless but it will ease your mind and if is more than that, don't wait a month.

    Please call. I don't think
Please call. I don't think it is good to wait for a reason. What ever the cause, you would feel better not having the discomfort after exertion.

    I know where you're coming
I know where you're coming from. It seems I always want to wait till the next time I see my doc to bring things up, but in your circumstance, I would call. Chest pain is nothing to mess around with. I'm praying everything turns out ok for you, could be something minor and it will put your mind at ease. God Bless

    Yep you're right
Same advice I would give anyone. I also remembered that one of the chemo drugs I took can effect the heart valves. So I have sent her nurse and email which she always reads first thing in the morn. Let you know what she says.

    Call your doctor please--be vigilant
I do not want to scare anyone and, believe me, I would have the same treatment again if it will buy me another 22 years, but I had a mild heart attack in 2007. I had no risk factors and no family history other than (hx of cancer, radiation, chemo--never adriamycin though). The ACS had sent an email about a year before warning of the risks of longterm survivors and heart disease, but being active, not overweight with low blood pressure--I thought it could NEVER happen to me.

I was folding clothes one evening and then had sudden, severe pain and pressure in my chest and left arm, accompanied with vomiting. Danny called 911 and none of the paramedics thought I could possibly be having a heart attack. Everyone kept saying esophageal spasm. Spent the night in the hospital and the next morning my cardiac enzymes were sky high and I was being rushed to cath lab.

Anyway, the moral of this story is not to keep anyone from being treated for cancer. I certainly would not be here today if I had not been treated for the cancer. Vicki, I just want you to not blow this off and see your doctor as soon as possible.

Duke researchers call our increased risk for cardiovascular injury the "multiple hit hypothesis." The great news is we are living long enough to be longterm survivors; the bad news is we must be vigilant about our cardiovascular system after treatment.

    Please. Call. Now.
Vicki, like everyone else has pointed out, chest pain is nothing to fool around with. There is very likely any number of explanations for it, but only your oncologist can tell you for sure.

    update
From the echo I have to go see a cariologist Thursday. All iknow is that I have atrial septial anuerysm which is a bulge in the muscle wall between the two upper chambers. Can't be too bad if they aren't slapping my butt in the hospital. :)
