Hot tub

Hey guys. I was reading an old post that it was not healthy to get in a hot tub unless it is obviously clean. I would like to know the health risks and, if any, benefits of a hot tub while I am going through chemo. Everything hurts so bad and I don't know what else to do. They gave me 500mg hydrocodone for pain but it does NOTHING. I am at a loss. My hubby and I were looking into the hot tub thing and I wanted some advice.

On a more somber note, my heart and prayers go out to Bob and the rest of Jane's family. My this angel finally fly home in peace.

    Hot tubbing
I stayed away from hot tubs during chemo b/c I was warned about steering clear of any possible source of infection. Maybe you could try a sauna instead? Also some folks here have gotten relief from acupuncture and massage. Hmmm, now that I think about it though, acupuncture could also be a source of infection. I think there have been some studies that show exercise to be beneficial during chemo. I just walked every day, but I would have gone to a Tai Chi'i class had one been available. What does your physician say? I hate hydrocodone - would rather be in pain than take the stuff.

    Hi Trishell,
    I also had all

    Hi Trishell,

I also had all the pain during and after chemo. My doctor had me on percocet, it also didn't do much to relieve the pain. I didn't use a hot tub but I did take lots of hot baths during the day. I found if I took the percocet and then relaxed in a hot bath, i could handle the pain. Are you getting IP chemo as well? I was. I also had pretty bad abdominal pain. I don't like taking pain meds at all but I couldn't function being in all that pain all the time either so I choose the lesser of the two evils. :) If you're not getting any relief at all from the pain med you have, I would let your doctor know. Hope you feel better soon. ((((HUGS))))

    HOt baths
I don't know about Hot Tubs...they truly are a bacteria breeding ground....My mother takes a hot bath every night and says it not only helps relieve the pain, but also helps her to relax before she goes to bed....

    Get something different for pain
Seems like everyone is different...you have to find a different pain pill. Or a different doctor if you are not getting taken care of properly. Just be proactive about avoiding constipation...that makes it hurt more!

I have been on chemo since
I have been on chemo since 2008 with a little time off. I have been in the hot tubs in 2009 and 2010 at the beach and I am in our jacuzzi 2 times or so a week if needed.

It definitely helps me or I would not bother with it! I too have been in pain for different reasons with different chemos and many shots, etc.

Now that I am on doxil I do have to watch the heat more, but I still do the jacuzzi but not quite as hot. We are not going to the beach this year, but are going to Hawaii in October and I know there are hot tubs by the pool on the cruise and I will be in them.

I hope and pray I am off chemo by then.

    I guess in moderation.............
