Moopy's pheasant released

Moopy's pheasant was released this morning about dawn (it's cloudy so not sure if was exactly as the sun broke the horizon but it was close and a light soft snow was falling).

Perhaps I should explain why I chose to release a phesant hen instead of doing balloons as others are. It has been many years since I've released a balloon for anyone - I have seen first hand the devastating effects, that the ones that do not get high enough in the atmosphere to basically disentergrate, can have on wildlife, marinelife and livestock. Those that don't make it that high can cause death that is very hard and slow on the animal. I can't/won't take a chance that a balloon I release might be one that kills an animal - I choose to release an appropriate animal(s) in someone's name - or if it's impossible to find a suitable animal for safe release then contribute to a wildlife rescue facility in their name.

Does it make me 'right' or 'wrong' - no. Do I think those who do balloon releases are 'wrong' - no. Releasing balloons is just not something I can do.

    We are closer in thought
We are closer in thought than you might imagine! I didn't think of the animals ( thanks for that enlightening information!) but I do know that balloons have gotten tangled in high tension lines and have caused fires and power outtages. I think it doesn't happen often~ at every Relay For Life, Sunday AM as a final gesture, hundreds of balloons are released with messages on them.

I think it is beautiful that you released a pheasant in Lisa's honor...I am very touched by that, and I know Joe and Moopy are too.

    I...
Choose to light a candle at church...I never have balloons and haven't a critter to release...oh wait...I could release the hubby from the basement! Just kidding, I love that man of mine! What's important is honoring the memory of loved ones....it's the thought that counts...

    Peace be with all..

    Thanks so much, Susan!
And to all of you Pink Sisters who are helping me through this terrible day!

About eight years ago, our dear friend Andrea ended her long battle with ovarian cancer. Since Andrea was a non-believer, her wish was that we have a memorial "non-service" in her honor. As it turned out, I got to preside over it. The "non-service" ended with a dove being released into the air. It was absolutely perfect. Moopy and I, along with absolutely everyone else at Andrea's "non-service," were in tears.

I truly believe that Moopy would be, and is, touched and thrilled by such a beautiful gesture on her behalf... especially in a light, soft snow. I know for a fact that I am. Thanks so much, Susan!

Pink and yellow from me, I
Pink and yellow from me, I am sure Moopy is looking down from the heavens and is just touched by all the beautiful gestures. Joe, I hope knowing how much lisa was loved helps you through your days ahead. Lisa was a pink sister, but you are also pink to me. You yourself have helped me through some ruff times and I thank you.

I think it was a wonderful
I think it was a wonderful gesture to release a pheasant.I, too, could not release a balloon into the air because of wildlife. And the choice of a pheasant is so beautiful, I occasionally see them while driving further back in the country.Hopefully, it will find a mate and create more. Even if no human ever sees them, it is such a nice thought that they are out there.

    Susan, where are you from?
Hi Susan, I was wondering where you are from because the pheasant is my state bird (South Dakota). That was awesome of you to do for Lisa's birthday

Welll - Yes it is our State Bird
I'm 'from' a lot of places - primarily FL (native), spent 3 years in France as a child, WA (NAS Whidbey Island), the Northern Mojave Desert (NWC China Lake)but now I'm very near Paha Sapa (the Beautiful Black Hills of Dakota). We actually live on the edge of the prairie a couple of miles to the ENE of the Hills. We've been in this area about 16 yrs.

    Even better yet!
Moopy and I drove through the Black Hills/Badlands on our way out to Seattle back in May 1990. We both found that area more impressive than the Rockies or the Cascades... we had hoped to get back there someday (and not to visit Wall Drug, either).
