Extremely Sleepy at times

in Colorectal Cancer #1
Sometimes my dad feels extremely tired and cant hold eyes open even after a great night sleep. Is anyone else going thru this or have any ideas what causes this? Sometimes its several days after chemo. Again, he has metasitic colon cancer.

    I would get that too at times while on various chemos.
    I could sleep all day for 3-5 days at times.
    It's like I became a cat!

    Yes, it's quite normal. After one really tough chemo treatment I actually slept for 6 days straight only getting up when my dog woke me to let her out or feed her. I never in my life thought that I would do that and am even embaressed to say that I did. And that week of chemo, anytime I sat still for more than a couple of minutes I would fall asleep so I had to keep moving or give in to it. I could have 2 cups of coffee in the morning and then go right back to sleep easily.

    He will need a lot more rest. It's nothing to worry about. It's his body trying to heal and just plain worn out from the chemo

    Chemo Fatigue
    You will hear the term "Chemo Fatigue" and that's exactly what it is.... very common for anyone on chemo. Chemo Fatigue is not like when you are really tired because you were out all night.... chemo fatigue is where you physically can not keep your eyes open or put one foot in front of the other. The thought of walking from the bedroom to another room is way too exhausting.

    The best thing is to acknowledge it and let dad sleep for as long as he needs to. It's his body's way of adjusting to the chemo and allowing his system to do what it has to do while the chemo is working through his system.

    Nothing to worry about... and totally normal to expect.

    To answer your question, yes, extreme fatigue quite normal. George is on Camptosar and he is constantly fatigued. Goes to bed tired, wakes up tired. Last blood work showed slightly anemic so that is contributing to it.

    Thank you so much! You always give great advice. My dad is still pretty new to all this. He is stage 4. I cant get him to join because he doesnt want to hear anything negative! He is adament he only wants to hear the positive things so I read him the responses I get. He is pretty scared as I imagine everyone that hears the words "cancer" are. He has alot of questions and it is very helpful for me to be able to go on CSN and get the answers. Thanks again for your time and I will keep you in my prayers also.

    Yes, I get very sleepy during chemo week. I finished treatment #3 nine days ago, and I went to the gym today. As soon as I got home, I changed clothes and had to take a nap immediately, because I couldn't keep my eyes open for another minute.
