Final step in treatments being finished - had my port removed

Tuesday March 8th, went through and had my port removed. Except for not being allowed to lift anything for 48 hours (but was allowed to run the day after surgery) all is going well, just a bit tender when I move and when the area gets bumped. Have dissovleable stitches so no follow-up appt. just free to go.

    Port Removal
Congratulations on being "deported." I was deported in January. It was a great decision to get the port to begin with, but it always creeped me out mentally and I was very glad to have it removed. One step closer to normalcy as far as I am concerned. Once again, congratulations.

Weird, right .. we have to see our doctor, or specialist
several times a week .. for what it seems like forever .. Port taken out .. and it's like see ya, no worries -- ! I sat there for a few minutes, stammering, I don't need a recheck? Keep you eye on your site and stitches, making sure there is no inflammation of any kind. Bruising around the site, will become visible in a day or two - don't despair -- they will fade in time, as will your scar.

Deportation .. Love it .. Now it's time to get your groove back, and taking back your life ..! :D

You are now port-less! I have port-less envy! Just finished Chemo but my onc wanted it to stay in for another 6 months, says you never know and I have been going for IV Hydration every week after chemo.

So enjoy your freedom and know that in 6 months I will do a happy dance with you!

    Be Well,

Congrats to you!! I"ll probably have mine in until June! I'm glad I've had it in but it does creep me out sometimes when I accidently touch the area!!

I"ve heard that the removal is so much easier than when they put it in and I'll even be awake!!

    I"m sure you feel FREE!!!!!!

    Take care

    Hippiechick - I actually had
Hippiechick - I actually had mine for 9 months following my last chemo treatment. Onco wanted me to keep it until I had the first mammogram following treatments which was in Feb.

I was semi awake for the removal. My surgeon actually takes you back to the operating room and removes the port. I was sedated for the removal..It was pretty easy, wasnt allowed to drive for a day and then no lifting for 48 hours and then back to normal. Having some problems with the site now, will call the surgeons office in the morning and see what they want to do.

No more port. Good for you. Can't wait until I finish my herceptin in June so that I can get mine removed.

    I had my port out.....
and felt free after that. It was my last reminder of having had breast cancer; except, the missing breast that I am getting ready to replace. Then I will feel whole again.

    Love and Light,
    Vicki
