Nerve wrecking:(

Ok, I had a stereo-tactic biopsy on Wed. Didn't go well, I passed out in the middle, they didn't get enough samples or the right one...

My primary care dr called me Friday morning to tell me that pathology results came back and appeared to be normal, but second part of report was missing???? Then I received a call from my surgeon's nurse telling me I have to come in Tuesday bc the Dr wants to discuss my pathology results with me????

I asked her , should I be worried bc of PC told me it was OK and she said "I don't know, you gotta discuss that with your surgeon!" WTF....excuse my language, but I am so sick and tired of this "push-and-pull" situations...

I apologize, but I needed to went bc you are the only one who can understand...my friend when I told her about it, told me I am just overreacting and everything is fine...yeah , it is fine when it is not about your own life/health but someone's else.....

Why is so hard for DRs to pick up the phone and talk to the patients? Do they really get richer by charging "in office" visit for telling the patients their test's results???

Horrible....

Boki.

    IT'S HARD TO WAIT...
Dear Boki...I'm with you and would be frustrated too. Maybe your surgeon "needs" to see you personally to complete the diagnosis that your PC gave you for his part of insurance purposes if he ordered tests for you. Remember that most doctors have staff who would call you and tell you over the phone if it is cancer. I think it's a really good sign that the first part of your tests were negative. I always feel that no direct news is good news. Hang in there.

I am sorry that you are
I am sorry that you are being given the runaround! It is sooo frustrating when you get conflicting reports from your Drs! That being said, I have never known a surgeon or any other Dr. for that matter, who will give a patient path results over the phone. In my experience this just does not happen. This goes for both good and poor results. I think they (Drs.) want to avoid misunderstandings, conflict, and ambiguity. They would rather sit down with you person-to-person and also so they can answer any questions you may have, face-to-face. Think about it. If you were to get bad news, wouldn't you want to receive it from the Dr. him/herself while you are sitting in his/her office? And conversely, if you had been imagining the worst, wouldn't it be kinder to get positive results in person, rather than over the phone?

Try not to project. I know it's easy to say and hard to do, but it will help you in the end.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

    another thought
When having news over the phone it is hard to have another person listning with you. If you go to the office you can bring a friend or relative. If the news is bad then once you hear the first several words your head will be spinning. Having another there will allow you to get all the facts that you mind can't absorb at the moment. Plus if it is good news then you have someone to rejoice with other than clinical staff.

    Hi
Just wanted to say sorry, I can imagine how frustrated you are right now. Went through this with my mom (uterine cancer) She was so sick and after waiting an hours to see gyn/onc. (par for the course) she would complain of something and they would be like, 'Oh talk to your primary Dr about that.. I think most of them can't find their a$$es with both hands. Do yourself a favor and get copies of your medical records as you go.

I wish I would get calls from my drs instead of someone in the office, nurse, etc. At least then you could ask a question. I too hate being told that I have to come to the office. I'm seeing my gyn in another week for exactly this reason. He needs to discuss my options to reduce or irradicate hot flashes.

When my surgeon did an office biopsy he did call to let me know it was cancer. After the sterostatic biopsy I did go back to his office to discuss the pathology and what surgery to go with - I opted for bilateral mastectomy.

I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience with your biopsy. It is important to sit and discuss your options with the dr after biopsy is done though. Wishing you the best and let us know how it goes.

    I know what you mean
I am on pins and needles when I am waiting for important information and it frustrates me to know they have what I want to know almost in front of them and can't tell me over the phone. You are right, when it is your health you just want to know right then and there.
That being said, I do understand that they would rather present good or bad in person and be able to explain the results to us, options and so on. I hope the time passes quickly for you!
