Can it be ovarian cancer?

in Ovarian Cancer #1
My mom's first oncologist have told us based on the biopsy that she has a breast cancer that has metastasized to her backbone where she had surgery 3 weeks ago to remove part of the tumor. The biopsy results of the tissues removed from her back revealed that she may have breast , lung or bone cancer.
She went to see another oncologist last week who is specialized in breast cancer and he is a professor. After looking at her mammogram and examined her physically, he told her that he doesn't believe that she has a breast cancer or lung cancer and asked for the tissues to be biopsied again and for more blood test. The blood tests showed high cancer markers in her ovaries and lower marks in her pancreas and colon. Almost nothing in her breast or lung. He said that he can not confirm anything until the new biopsy results come out. She is having a PET scan on Friday and we are expecting the biopsy report to be out tomorrow.
Is is usually that difficult to diagnose the cancer type or there is something wrong going on with any or both of the oncologists?.

    probably wait for scan results
    Don't know for sure but the scans would definatley find if it is ovca. Your onc., ia it gyno/oncologist, as they specialize in the field. Is your moms belly bloated and is she having pelvic pain and urinary urgency. As these are some common symtoms of ovca. Keep us posted and I wish you and your mom the best...val

    Primary tumor
    Whatever is going on with your mother, it has probably spread beyond the primary or original site. It sounds like stage 4 something. It is important to know what the original site of the tumor is so that the BEST treatment is used.

    I like the idea of getting more than one opinion and I hope you are taking notes so you can keep everything straight about who said what.

    Differences of opinions
    I think your mother's situation illustrates how difficult it is to find the primary site of the cancer.

    I agree that it is really important to know where the cancer originated so the doctor can select the proper chemo.

    I hope your mom is not having a lot of pain. If she is, please be sure she gets good pain management and keep her from getting constipated from the pain meds.

    Hoping the mystery is solved soon.
