Hi Everyone--

It has been brought to my attention that in today's New York Times there is an article on anal cancer, written by Roni Caryn Rabin, and featuring the Almada siblings, who are responsible for establishing the HPV and Anal Cancer Foundation. You can view this article online by going to nytimes.com and clicking on the health section. It's very exciting, as this is the kind of exposure this disease needs to raise public awareness.

Morning Martha,

You were a day ahead of me! This article was in my inbox this morning and it is indeed a very informative one. Your diligence in researching and communicating the information you find regarding this stigmatized cancer is so valuable.

I have been lurking and following everyone's progress. So glad to read of completed treatments, improving side effects, clear scans and living life!

I am awaiting scheduling of IMRT radiation for my pluera. Simulation was done last week and it is just a matter of mapping my plan and getting my time slot for the machine. My radiation oncologist for this go-around is the head of the department, Dr. Craig Stevens. He has treated many mesothelioma patients, which involves the pleura. He is one of the few who do this procedure and Moffitt is one of the few facilities with the necessary radiation equipment. He says he is cautiously optimistic that we will have good results. It does not come without collateral damage. I will post later with more details regarding that.

It is a rainy morning here in Florida, my favorite kind of weather. I am off to have lunch with a friend and do some bead shopping.

Blessings to all,
Joanne
