I know last night there was some big sporting thing on TV but on one of the local PBS stations they showed the series "This Emotional Life". One of the stories that they had was this one called "A Survivor's Story". This is only a 4 minute clip from the episode but I could not help but think of myself and many others on this site who deal with this issue as well as many of the other issues they deal with. It's really a very interesting series, so keep an eye out on your local PBS station

    Easing burdens...

    Watched it.

This message has application, I think, to cancer patients and to the people who care for (and sometimes grieve for) them.

Thanks for posting this and for your many interventions to help people on this board. In my particular case, you made my burden easier, made me laugh when that was very difficult, and challenged me to think beyond my comfort zone. I am grateful to you for that.

    Stay well, Phil.

    Thanks Phil!
I watched the clip; very interesting. I liked hearing a cancer survivor talking about some of the tools she is using - meditation for example, without being "over the top". I will keep my eyes open for this series; not sure if we have it here in Canada.

Thanks Phil. It was good to see the woman on the video feeling better about herself and taking steps to take care of herself.
Thanks for sharing. The whole series looks good, I'm going to check it out some more.

Glad people are interested in this
It was very good on many levels. I do love what PBS has to offer. Most of the time when I watch TV I like to be educated compared to being entertained. This is more interesting and realistic than watching a bunch of people who can't stand each other live in a house with each other. At least here you may find out why the people can't stand each other
    ;-)

Just one more example of your generosity, inspiration, and care for helping to enrich the lives of others. I enjoyed a number of the other videos as well.

    Be well Phil,

    The section with POW's
There was a section of the show where they talked with former POWs from the Vietnam War and many of them said that while their experience was not good by any means, the majority of them would not erase that part of their lives if they had the chance. They all grew and gained something from the experience that they felt they would not have gained otherwise.

That reminded me of the post I made a long time ago where I asked "If cancer had been all bad or if anything good came out of it".

They found these areas of growth that people in stressful/traumatic situations. I really felt a connection with this part of the show:
"They describe five areas of growth reported by people who have experienced these and other traumatic events:

*Discovery of new opportunities and possibilities that were not present before
*Closer relationships with others, especially others who suffer
    *Greater appreciation for life
*Greater sense of personal strength: “If I lived through that, I can face anything”
    *Spiritual growth

Researchers are careful to remind us that growth comes from the struggle to cope with the trauma—not from the event itself."
