Ladies,

I have posted previously about the Crazy sexy cancer diet book.
And I am so fascinated by the information I am finding in it. I
don't want to stop at chemo and mastectomy. My intuition tells
me I can do more.

I am just devouring this book, it makes a lot of sense to me. And
I am someone who does a lot of research and thinks logically. I
am tired of feeling helpless and would like to take an active role
in my healing process. Another book I loved was the china study.
I don't simply follow fads but this makes soooo much sense.

So here's what I would like to suggest. How about we form a
study group of our own? I have already been back to my vegetarian
diet for a couple months now and I can't tell you how amazing
juicing makes me feel. SURE I missed my coffee, sure I will miss
my cheese. But if I have to choose between a piece of delicious
goat cheese or many more vibrant year, the answer seems obvious
to me. Did you know milk is full of estrogen? So I am going on a
totally plant based diet and juicing mania. I don't want to become
a statistic, I want to create statistics and hopefully in our favor.

I think it's important that we repair the cells in our body after
aggressively assaulting them with chemo,it's high time to show
some LOVE! Love in the shape of enzymes and other yummy
stuff! Boost our immune system and release the toxins! We can
research more together and exchange ideas.

Long story short I am looking for ladies who would like to go
on this adventure with me. So we can trade recipes, rant about
lack of caffeine and cheese but I know once you feel as good as
I am already starting to feel, you don't want to go back.

Anyway any fearless fighters that are open to this experiment,
let's talk! You should be done with chemo and wondering what
to do with your poor battered body and what's the worst that can
happen? You can always stop. I would like to start with the 21
day cleanse and go from there.

I really hope to hear from some of the ladies on here...

Hugs,
Ayse

I had a lumpectomy in Aug.2010 and finished rads in Nov. 2010. Not one doctor said what I should or should not eat. My cancer is hormone fed. I realize milk comes form preg. cows and that means hormones. I try to watch what I eat but not very informed on it. I am 63 and should know more. Would love to see what you are doing if it could help me.
Thank you for the invite. I will watch for your info.

    Check this website:
Check this website: http://www.cancerproject.org. They have recipes, classes, books, DVD's...all supporting a plant based cancer fighting vegan diet. They also keep ease and convenience in mind, they're aware that we want to cook and prepare a meal in 30 minutes not 3 hours.

I'm not sure I can join your adventure yet...just not sure if I can do 100%. Also, since I'm triple negative, I'm not sure how much I need to worry about estrogen in my diet. But I'm going to a class in my area and have tried some of the recipes.

    Hi Diana
Thank you so much for showing interest.

Over the course of the last few month, I have cut out
all animal products from my diet. I did it gradually...
And should I crave a piece meat, i won't deny myself
but choose it very carefully, organic is a must with meats.

And every morning I make myself a juice made of celery,
cucumber, kale, grapefruit and romane lettuce. Sometimes
I will also throw in a carrot or two or an apple or pear.
And I use other greens too such as chard, spinach.

I don't eat anything processed. I grew up on a farm till
I was 5. So it doesn't seem hard for me. It was hard giving
up my coffee at first but coffee can never replace the way my
juice makes me feel. This was the hardest at first. Coffee has
a lot of negative effects on the body.

But I am determined to heal my body and soul.

I don't want to write too much but I would love to hear
what you think about this and maybe you'll give it a try
    and we can compare results.

    Hugs,
    Ayse

    Thanks for sharing Linda!
    You know Linda,

I started really slow. First it was one day free of processed and animal products,
then I upped the ante to two and before you knew it I didnt' even miss, better yet
    crave it.

I feel empowered when I decide what I put in my body and know how it will effect me.
For the first time I am really inspired and think I can make a difference.

And trust me I don't spend 3 hours on my meals... i am way too impatient for that.
I roast a bunch of vegetables, eggplant, peppers, zucchini, portabella mushrooms
and put them away. I use these to make quick sandwiches. I don't want to bore you
    with all what I do.

I will steal some recipes from your site (:

    I'm definitely interested!
But I've gotta go slow, too. I love me some cheese! :)

A friend of mine bought me a juicer last summer and I've been too scared to use it, stupid, I know.

I think I missed the cooking gene, I'm not domestic in the kitchen at all. The last couple of days, however I've begun juicing and I LOVE IT!

So, I'm still in the take it slow stage, but I've love to learn more.

    Yes, I gotta do this
Funny I also feel strongly this is what I need to do. I'm doing research now, trying to find the right cleansing. I don't want to get into the wrong cleansing that may do more harm than good. My body has been thru enough. I also need to lose this extra weight. I have noticed an increase in my BP since I've gained weight. So yes, I'm in.

    Hi Ayse!
I plan to buy a juicer this month (checking out prices) so I can start juicing. Its all new to me but I believe 100% in the benefits of it. I finishing my 5 year of Tamoxifen soon and want to start incorporated healthy plants, fruits and veggies (organic of course!)

However...I LOVE, love, love my coffee (decaf, one cup in the A.M.) Is caffiene really not good for you?? I love the flavor, the smell...it's like my warm hug from Joe every morning.
I guess I just have to find something that tastes really close to coffee but is good for you.

    Anyway, I'm interested!!

    Hugs and great idea,

    Sylvia

    diet--I avoid canned anything
I really avoid all canned foods now. The epoxy lining in cans leaches BPA (a toxic estrogenic substance) into foods and soups. Canned foods are the biggest source of BPA but also avoid anything plastic with a recycle #7 or greater.

I commend you and the others
I commend you and the others for taking control of your lives and reaching for health. This is a great idea, but one which I have no heart for. I was already quite mindful of the nutrient benefits in preventing cancer and had been buying organic for years. I rarely ate red meat (chicken/fish) and ate lots of salads and raw veggies before my dx. Upon my dx I did what I considered a lot of research concerning diet and breast cancer and from my findings there is no link (except a supposed one) between dairy and breast cancer. And actually there may be a reduced risk of breast cancer in some cases. Remember, we are not all the same. Some are IBC, some are triple - and some are ER+ and so one size doesn't fit all. Dairy contains Vit D and conjugated linoleic acid which is actually a benefit. There is some contention about the growth hormone rBGH given to cows in the U.S. and some would have us believe that it contributes to breast cancer but that growth hormone is illegal in Canada and I believe we have similar rates. (So buy Canadian cheese, LOL) This growth hormone should be banned but I'm not convinced it causes breast cancer. Also when a cow is pregnant isn't it a high progesterone that prevents the cow from miscarriage??

I just bring all this up so you will research what's best for you and hopefully from reputable sites like http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed This is where I found out that Indole-3-Carbinol can cause liver tumours but some "health" sites still flog it. Another good site esp for vegetarians to keep track of their nutrients is nutritiondata.com. Quite comprehensive. Gives anti-inflammatory indexes for foods as well.

One more thing and this I think you'll like....coffee contains antioxidants and does not cause or influence breast cancer...but yes, too much caffeine can cause other problems.

Cheers and good luck...may all your days be healthy

    Me too
I get dried beans and soak them over night and of course
    lotsa fresh veggies.

We have so many toxins in our environment. so if I can avoid
    it I will.

Thanks for posting this info Eileen.

For all who would like to give it a shake
I think we should start slow and easy.

So I would suggest for the next two weeks try to have one
day with no animal products and processed food. Just one day.
Only fresh veggies,a little fruit and grains.

Also integrate juicing. I would recommend first thing in the
morning on a hungry stomach. I switched it around before but
I found it works best for me in the morning. You can actually
feel this nice tingling in your belly. I always wait about 20 -30
minutes before I have my break fast.

    This is what I use(organic):

    1 grape fruit juice
1/ 2 cucumber (if not organic, peel it)
    Celery stalks
Romaine lettuce (you can stop here and work your way to Kale)
    Kale
    Spinach
Carrots (if you would like to sweeten it)I

I also mix it up and sometimes use beets, chard, broccoli stems
cabbage (this needs getting used to), lemon, orange, pear, apple.
But fruit to veggie ratio should be about 1:3.

And last but least, consciously increase your water intake. I actually
set my alarm on my cell phone to remind me. I set it at 2 pm and
then again at 7 pm. I drink a bunch of water so by the time I go to
bed I don't wake up to go peepee.

I thinks these are easy things to start with, what do you think?

    I was hoping
we can do it all together. Kind of like a buddy sytem to support each other.

I posted below maybe we can ease into this so I am thinking we should
start our 21 day cleanse mid february or march, so everyone can get some
    juicing experiments in.

    What do you think?

Slyvia - I know exactly how you feel
Coffee was the hardest thing to give up for me but I did.
I eased into it. And I PROMISE once the juice start working
its magic, you will not miss it.

First I drank decaf and then I weaned myself of that too
and shifted to green tea. Unfortunately decaf is bad as well.
coffee makes your body acidic which can lead to inflammation,
which is root of many evil.

I may still have one for treat but it's rare.

As for juicers I have a Jack Lalanne, Costco has it for a really
good price currently. I am happy with mine, it really gets a lot
of juice. My only pet peeve is that it looks like stained steel but
the actual part where juice is collected is plastic. I think my
next one will be a Breville.

and never had enough energy to do it. Thank you for starting this post.

I have change my diet significantly since my diagnosis, May 2008: minimized processed foods & white flour, eliminated sugar, coffee, milk, reduced red meats to 1 time per week.

Please remember everyone during radiation the role of protein is very important please keep protein foods in the center of your diet. You need an extra protein to help repair your DNA.

    Thanks for your input Jan
    Jan,

thanks for voicing your opinion. And you are absolutely correct we are all different
but no one ever has said don't eat vegetables. Except during chemo, I was asked to
    avoid raw vegetables.

I would never want to tell anyone this is the only way. Instead I look at this as a trial.
Like you I too ate my veggies and was pretty conscious on my food choices but I also
guzzled a gallon of coffee, most of my veggies were cooked (no enzyme magic), did
not sleep enough, did not exercise enough, did not drink enough water. Just to name a few.

I am suggesting this diet plan because it goes straight to our basic foundation - cells.
No one who has tried juicing can deny the benefits. And when we eat a plant based diet
with an emphasis on raw foods we assist our bodies to maintain an alkaline (aerobic)
    environment.

Dr. Otto Warburg won the Noble prize in 1931 for his work that discovered, the prime
cause for cancer is the replacement of normal oxygen respiration of the body's cells
by oxygen deficient cell respiration. Cancer cells are anaerobic and thrive in an oxygen
depleted environment. An alkaline diet provides your cells with oxygen.

Coffee is extremely acidic and causes considerable dehydration. In addition to being
acidic coffee beans are being roasted. Coffee beans have oil in them and that oil
becomes rancid and clogs your liver - the body's main cleansing system.

Again, I am not here to tell anyone what to do. I researched this for myself and was
very fascinated with my findings and the well being I am experiencing and thought
I share. I consider this an experiment and myself a guinea pig. And what have I got
to loose but maybe a few extra pounds?

Thank you very much for adding this important piece of information.

I didn't have radiation, so I do not have much information about that.
Therefore I really appreciate your valuable input.

    I'm in!
I can do it for a day.

I didn't know the ratio more veggies to fruit in regard to juicing. I've tried the celery and think celery is much better eaten than juiced! :)

I love the spinach and carrot combo. I haven't tried juicing kale or beets. I'll try those next.

How about nuts? Almonds, walnuts? Can we eat those on our no processed food day?

Thanks for starting this, aysi! I'm excited! :)

    Yes, I am
I have had fruit and vegetable smoothie in the morning when I was not working. It is very difficult to do before work now.
    We make juice before dinner.
    My favorite (2 glasses):
    4 apples
    3 carrots
    4 celery sticks;

    Today we did (2 glasses):
    4 golden apples
    1 cup of blueberry
    1 cranberry
We all need to encourage each other.Knowing that many sister have been doing juicing is very motivational for me.
