Interesting Night at the Bowling Alley

Last night was our bowling night so off we went. Upon arrival I noticed we were playing a team of folks that I always enjoy bowling with. One gentleman on the team has been bowling for at least as long as we have. He is aware of my cancer battles and on occasion has lent an understanding ear to my husband explaining to him that his wife has battled cancer as well and that he truly understands what my husband has been through staying at my side through all of this. Well last night as we were bowling his wife showed up and he was visually tickled that he would now have the chance to introduce us. He came up to me and told me that his wife had arrived and that he wanted to introduce us. I went with him to meet her, he had not yet told her I was a survivor. He tells his wife my name and grins, she smiles to me (looking a tad confused) I held out my hand and told her we have something in common....we are both three time cancer survivors! Her face simply lit up as she stood and embraced me, she asked how I was doing and I asked how she was. During such a difficult week this was a remarkable moment, all I could think of while hugging this woman was all of my sisters in pink, my fellow kindred spirits!

    Quiet the meeting!!
RE what an amazing story. Thanks for posting this. I often thought whether
I would do it again if I had a recurrence. Reading your story made me realize,
yes I WOULD. After all who knows who I may run into at the bowling alley =)

Thanks again, you really made a difference for me.

    Hugs,
    Ayse

Ayse, yes we gotta keep fighting we never know what wonders are just around the corner. I personally learned this attitude from my mom who fought 4 different cancer battles over a 24 year period. Because she fought to be stay here she got to see all her children get married, she was able to see all of her grand children born and she had many wonderful experiences that she would have missed had she decided to let the chips fall where they may so to speak. I am glad I could make a difference it is why I come here, that and the fact you all have given me sooooo much!

    Hugs,

Oh RE... awe... **sniff** sniff** That was an amazing moment wasn't it??? It literally warmed my heart... I was freezing just a second ago... oh wait, maybe that was a hot flash from the meds... nope... lol I have found that when I have met survivors that the embraces are just a little bit tighter... have you noticed that too?

Sure wish I could give you one of those hugs,

@T you made me smile when you mentioned the hot flash cause I was using a hand fan at the bowling alley cause I get "hot" and it was one of the things she had notice cause she gets those dern flashes too! Who know's "T" someday I may end up in your neck of the woods and we will get to share a face to face hug!

@My Turn I agree once we know we are in the midst of another survivor we understand the fighting spirit we both share and the moment is that much sweeter for it.

@Boopy I too love to read of moments when we meet another sister or brother in the fight to survive, it is my pleasure to have shared this one with you all. God bless you as well!

    So true -
When I run into someone who has / or had cancer of any kind really - I automatically have this Love and Bond with them. It just comes pouring out and I get so emotional everytime.
Also - we don't know what live we have touched as we have traveled this journey. I have had several of my co-workers come up to me to and say how much I have inspired them by my smile and upbeat attitude - Well, this one friend of mine was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer.. and he asked me what it was that got me through, how I did it with such a positive attitude and I said that you just do it or you wither and die – it’s a choice and I made the choice to live the best I can Also it was my faith in Jesus Christ that really made the difference. He carried me through it all and he revealed to me evidence that he has not forsaken me.
We just don't know what lives we have touched by our stories of survival, and our attitudes effect everyone around us. I've come to understand that God can use us in this way. HOw honored I feel.

    GG to radiation

sorry if this psot was all over the place - I'm at work at write as I can...

    Love you all

    Very nice!
Now his wife gets to know what a great person you are to have around (just ask us). Maybe your relationship with her will grow so that you two can go out for lunch or something at some point.

    I'm glad she found you.
