Mom has been accepted into a clinical trial

There are 75 clinics around the world accepting 350 patients into this clinical trial. Mom's oncologist's team has 38 patients and mom is one of them.
I really hope this is the answer we have all been praying for. The trial has been going on for a while and apparently the results are encouraging.
Has anyone else participated in a clinical trial?
Thanks,
Kelly

    Yes
I am in one now. PARP inhibitor - does have a name but forget what it is. Don't know the results as I am on Doxil - did not get the inhibitor.

Lots of traveling to Columbus, Ohio for trial because of tests and blood work.

Have had 6 infusions so far with 2 more to go. So far after 4 infusions CA125 is normal. Praise the Lord!

Kelly....I am trying to get into a Phase I trial for a vaccine, being done at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in NYC, even though I live in Dallas/Ft Worth, TX. I have been tentatively accepted, pending receipt and examination of my records (more on that in another post).

This is a trial for women in their first remission. What is your mom's status, and what is her trial for/called?

    Trial
Mom's oncologist was unable to remove her tumor in Septembe due to the location of it. As of November 22nd her CT scan showed the tumor had not shrunk nor had it grown. As of December she became carbo resistant meaning of course that the chemo was no longer effective. Her CA 125 at its highest was 14,301 and at it's lowest was 3,000+, her last CA 125 Dec 13th her counts were 4,018 :(
If Mom chooses not to do the trial she will be switched to Doxil. If she does the trial this is what it is :A RANDOMIZED, DOUBLE-BLIND, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED STUDY OF THE EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF MORAB-003 (FARLETUZUMAB) IN COMBINATION WITH PACLITAXEL THERAPY IN SUBJECTS WITH PLATINUM-RESISTANT OR REFRACTORY RELAPSED OVARIAN CANCER

I am hoping it will be the miracle we have been looking for and if not at the very least at least she can be a part of possibly helping others in the future.

My Mom is my hero. BTW we got the genetic testing results and Mom's cancer does not have a genetic link.

    Ooops
I forgot to add that Mom was a chunky 135 lbs when she began this journey (she is short, a good weight for her is about 125) at her lowest she was 85lbs, December 13th she was 88 and as of yesterday she is 94lbs and still no ascitites since her surgery September 3rd.

    Hello Kelly,

    Hello Kelly,

I had participated in one clinical-trial study.

It was a study for stage iv-ovarian cancer recurrence participants.

It involved the use of Doxil, Carbo and Avastin and the study lasted for six-months
in which at that time I only yielded 6 months of remission.

    Best wishes for your mom,

    Sharon

    doxil
    Kelly,

Doxil is working for me. It does work slower than some of the other chemos.

I do have the BRCA 2 gene mutation.

Wishing your mom the best. My mom was my hero, too! And my daughter tells me I am hers! Let your mom know that if you haven't already. That puts a smile on our face and lifts our spirits high!!

Mom goes for treatment at the jurvaninski clinic out of Henderson Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
We did not research this ourselves the doctor suggested it to mom. She did send Mom home with a 16 page informed consent information package.

Thank you for doing this for all the women out there that are unable to. I hope things go well for you Carlene. I always look forward to your posts because they are no nonsense and right to the point. You also seem like a very positive person and sometimes i need to "hear" that not all is lost.

    morab-003
    Kelly,

I'm currently participating in this same trial(MORAB-003 (FARLETUZUMAB). I did get good results on a CT scan after just the first 2 infusions of carbo/taxol plus weekly morab). Of the 7 tumors they can track on me, 1 disappeared completely, 1 grew a bit larger and the other 5 got smaller. I'm due for chemo #4 in early Feb.

It's a blind trial. 1/3 get a placebo of the morab. another 1/3 get half dosage. The rest get full dosage so I don't know which one I'm on.

My CA-125 is also going down so good news either way.

best of luck to your dear mother.
