Last Chemo Today

By the grace of God I have made it through an amazing and tough ten months of hell on Earth. DX stage 4 colon cancer in late Feb 2010 I just finished my last chemo today. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have that dumb pump taken off me for the last time. I know that there is a chance that it will come back but at this point I am not even thinking about this. Colon surgery in March and Liver Surgery in August with 12 rounds of chemo since March and I am so ready for a break. Doc thinks everything is looking good. I am to have a CT scan on Feb 1st and meet with him on the 4th to get the results. One thing that has got me thinking however is that my CEA number went up this time for the first time. It was 1.5 three weeks ago and today it was 2.0 but I also remember him telling me that the number can go up and down and to not worry about this unless they see the number going up over a period of time and it keeps going up. I am waiting for the Onc to call me back to reassure me that the 2.0 is nothing to be worried about. They told me my number today when I was getting my pump off but the Onc was not available to talk to as he was out at the hospital making rounds. I hope he calls me back today to help set my mind at ease. But again I am so glad to have this part of the battle behind me and I pray that when I get my CT results on the 4th he will tell me that I am cancer free and he will see me in 3 or 6 months. I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years and here is to a much better 2011

What a relief to have this day come. At first it seems like such a far reaching goal, but that's what you have to do is just keep counting down and eventually you will get there and feel like you've really accomplished something. My CEA rose during chemo and 2.0 is normal, so I'm sure this is nothing. Congratulations on completion. Good time to go out and celebrate.

    Hi Bobby,

congrats on the last treatment! One day at a time- don't try to think too far ahead to the whatifs. The slight increase in CEA is still very much in the normal range, so don't sweat it.
    You take care!!

Congrats on the last one. I am looking forward to when I can say the same. I bet you are just elated. Your CEA is under 3 so don't even worry about it. Congrats on that CEA number too. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

Although my chemo has stopped I will always have it in the back of my mind that the cancer can come back at anytime. But I will not live my life scared for this to happen. I look forward to my CT next month to hear my doctor say that I am in remission and then I will get back to work and try to live a life as close to normal as possible. I pray to God that everyone of us one day will all be cured of this terrible disease.

    God Bless,
