Hi everyone. Back for visit with Dr. Kelley at UCSF and it went pretty well. Had a check up and was happy to see BP back down where it belongs after the last trial drug. She was very optimistic about the tumors in my lungs being small and slow growing (it appears) She told me she felt we had 3 different options to work with. A) Back to the research Dr.'s at UCSF and they have about 3 trials she would recommend. Have to see what I qualify for and what is available. Will need to wait for "the phone call"! B) she will contact UC Davis and Stanford to see if they have a trial I might benefit from. She said she works with people at both. C) Use an older chemo, not with a trial, while we wait for something better, but I could do it here at home with my onc. I am feeling kind of down tonite, but really do need to realize that there are no promises, just trials. Somehow I guess I make more of it all. Anyway, now I wait and basically start the trial process over again. I am willing and did tell them I want to do whatever gives me the best shot. She said some people can live with this as a somewhat chronic illness. My pnemonia is gone, my lungs sounded very clear to her.
Anyway, thanks for the support and I will keep you posted as I hear more....Again, we wait!
Love, Jean

    Jean,
I'm glad your lungs sound good. You really seem to have a great doctor. I love that you have options. I'm praying for good placement for you with a trial that will conquer all cancer.

    Aloha,

    Hi Jean,

It's always a waiting game- wait, wait, and more waiting. Sorry about that! Glad to hear the lungs are clear, the BP is down, and that the onc was positive! Have your docs ever discussed the Gemzar/Xeloda combination, which is what I've been on since March? Just curious. You and I are kind of in the same situation. I haven't done any trials yet, but am pretty much there. I'm doing your option C, not an older chemo, but one that is normally used for another cancer. The trick there is that insurance will balk at it & they'd probably pay for one that is older, but that has been used for colorectal. You never can tell with them.
I will be curious to hear what you finally end up going with, as I guess you will be too!
Here's a big cyberhug and know that we are in this together.

    Love ya,
    Lisa

I'm sorry you have to wait. But as long as there is something they can do, it's worth it. I pray that you will get contact from Dr. Kelley soon. Take care. My thoughts are with you always. We will go to see Dr. Munster next Wednesday and will start the trial pretty soon I guess. I'll let you know how it goes. - Lucy
