Hello there,

After the first chemo treatment {Avastin, Oxaliplatin + xeloda (half portion)}, my mum has been suffering from serious diarrhea and in the end the oncologist decided to postpone her second treatment. Her CEA was 89 before the first treatment... which was even higher than before she had the surgery to cut her tumor in the colon!

Does anyone of you have this kind of experience? What will be the consequences? I'm worrying about her tumors in her liver...

Merry Christmas to all of you and hope you can all have great time with your families.
Dora

I had to push back one with rectal, skipped one with breast...
With the rectal treatment, it was because my white count was so low...

With the breast cancer treatment, 6 months later, I skipped one round of Adryimycin/Cytoxin because, after the Cisplatin for the rectal, the Adriamycin was giving my heart real troubles! (Both are known for affecting the heart..)

But, as far as mets, I don't have much info...

Hugs to you and mom...listen to her oncologist, she/he knows more about waiting and it's effects. Mine said (with the skipped one) "You know, Kathi, the whole goal of this is to help you go on to live your life. We can't do that if you do not have a life!"

    Hugs, Kathi

    Thank you (^^)\
    Hi Kathi,

Thanks a lot for your quick response. My mum's oncologist is on holiday right now and I have to wait till 30th Dec before we can see him again. I think your oncologist is very right. Meanwhile I will try to enjoy the 'holiday' with her as her appetite is back!

    Hugs and take good care.

I have been on chemo for more than a year, + have been delayed several times due to low neutrophils or dehydration; I think delays are pretty common. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season with your Mom.

    postpone treatments

My husband is on folfiri chemo.
The irinotecan in the folfiri causes him to have severe diarrhea.
His doctor gave him lomotil to take for the diarrhea.
He has found out it is best to take the lomotil before he gets diarrhea.
He takes it as soon as his stomach starts to cramp. That seems to work best for him.
    Ask you doctor about lomotil.
