I was hoping the trial drug was knocking the cancer back, but at least it held it fairly stable with really almost no progression. I know you are disappointed but this is not devastatingly bad news AT ALL. Consider these results to mean 'STABLE' and be happy this Christmas. You remain symptom-free and your cancer is soooo tiny. You're still okay, Nancy. Hug that to your heart and believe in it because it's true.
Did you do Gemzar already? I think that's my next line if my current carboplatin lets me down or I get an allergic reaction. I won't be getting any tests or findings until after Christmas, so "Ignorance is bliss" for me. ((((Nancy))))0 -

Thanks for the response. Not exactly stable but I get what you are saying. The growth was small enough that he put it before 'differential radiology' to get their opinion. This is why I like being treated at a major teaching facility.
Symptom free...well... I'm not so sure about that anymore as my stomach hurts daily. Hopefully it is related to the oral chemo I've been taking.
Yes, I was on Gemzar for 7 cycles. 2 carbo/gem then continued the remained with Gemzar alone. It held me stable for the first scan then 'possible' progression on the second scan. It was decided to go into the clinical trial at the point because my ca125 doubled although the CT showed 'possible' progression. Good luck with the carbo. Are you on Carbo alone? If you do have to do Gemzar it wasn't that bad. At least not for me.

Since my 1st recurrence my oncology team have a strategy of single agent chemos given sequentially for me. I worried that they weren't being aggressive enough and sought a 2nd opinion at Fox Chase, but Fox Chase concurred. I am like Libby and have trouble with my bone marrow and keeping my counts high enough to safely get chemo, so they have to go easy on me to keep me in treatment like this month after month. & I think they are trying to stretch out my treatment options as long as they can, as less drugs are approved for my rare form of uterine cancer than are approved for OVC. Also my cancer is ER-, PR-, & HER2-, so that eliminates even more treatment options for me (i.e., neither hormone therapy or herceptin are options for triple negative cancers).
Of course I am praying that my next CA125 (the 1st labs since I started carbo) show some kind of drop from my current CA125 of 229. CA125 has always been a good marker for me and I'll know if it doesn't drop on my labs nxt week that carbo isn't working, even though we won't throw in the towel that fast. But I'll know.0 -

I hope your doctors appointment goes well. Just take the small steps one at a time this is a very difficult illness and have many complications to go with it. thank God there are many new tx and druus being invented, i only hope there will be a screening tool for women so they can dectect this early/ i am in reoccurrance 2nd time but i can work part-time. wishing you and your family the best in the new year to come.....val0 -
Progression
Nancy I think as I continue on this journey, I come to hate certain words..ie., progression. Put all your emphasis on the word millimeters. I do like you do.... I tell myself it could be a lot worse. I will start on the Avastin alone for my first infusion but my doctor's office said they will get the Gemzar covered for me to take as soon as possible. Then I will be taking both of them together. They are getting all the paperwork together to fight it and I have my old company fighting for me too because I am still on COBRA.
Good Luck Nancy at the GYN onc today. I pray that they get the right treatment underway for you so that you can knock those areas out of the ballpark.

Not exactly stable.... yet! I'm betting that those stomach pains are a side effect. Is there anything else you could be given to relieve that discomfort?

Hi Nancy,
I'm sorry to hear the word, "progression". I know you were hoping for another word! Ba humbug! Good news that the colon and organs are clear.
I have had stomach pains off and on, it feels like a pinch or a pull, and sometimes really hurts. It will go for days or weeks, and then days or weeks of nothing. It is generally in the area that the omentum was removed. From the nature of the pain and the way it comes and goes, I strongly suspect adhesions are the culprit. Nothing shows up on the scan in that area. I have had a lot of surgery and I guess that is par for the course. On the other hand, if I push hard on my abs in the spots that the spots show up on the PET I have a different kind of pain. I suspect this to be tumors (they are small but still there.) Maybe this is all in my head, but it makes sense to me, and allows me to catagorize, accept and not dwell on it too much.
I hope you can set aside the big "C" and enjoy the holidays with your family.

I met with the GYN onc today. He said my CT results might not meet the clinical defination of progression according to the trial standards. That being said he still wants me to move on to something else as this medication is not moving me in the right direction. My last ca125 was elevated by 25%. I had one drawn yesterday but it is not in yet as there was a problem with the lab. He is thinking Avastin with oral Cytoxan (sp?) then moving on to Avastin with Taxol if the other combo does not work. He said instead of Avastin I could do Topo as a single agent. But he warned if I develop a bowel obstruction Avastin will no longer be on option for me. I decided to go with the Avastin. I am still thankful that over the last 6 months the growth of my cancer has been very minimal.0 -

Well....spit. This is not what I wanted to hear, and it certainly isn't the Christmas present you were looking for, either. But I love your attitude, Nancy, and that will get you past this bump in the road. If one has to have a less-than-perfect report, this would be the one to wish for.
I hope you get great results with the Avastin/Cytox. I hear the Avastin/Taxol combo works for some, too. At least we have many choices these days, and for that I am grateful.
A friend from my childhood died last week and when I saw the obit, the first thing that crossed my mind was, "I wonder if she had cancer." Good grief! A side effect of cancer: loss of logical thinking ability.

Something you wrote has struck a chord with me .............. WE HAVE SO MANY CHEMO OPTIONS ... Which is a comfort because if one isn't quite suited to us then there will sure to be another.

That you are having this questionable time right now. My mom was on Avastin, Cytoxan and Methotrexate this past summer. She tolerated it quite well. She had no ill effects from those drugs. I hope this treatment option is just what you need to fight whatever is going on.

My mom has also had positive results with avastin.
She is currently on avastin every 3 weeks along with daily cytoxan.
They monitor her urine along with her labs and blood pressure.
No problems with her urine. Her blood pressure has elevated slightly, but it's never been too high.
The only side effects from the avastin that she has experienced is constipation for a few days after her treatment. No side effects from the cytoxan at all.
No nausea, no zofran, no bowel issues, no neulasta shots! She's also started to grow back her hair.
Her Dr.s are hoping that this treatment plan will continue to knock the cancer back while giving her a much needed break from the carbo/taxol/avastin. The carbo/taxol/avastin combo significantly shrunk her tumors.
The jury's still out on whether just avastin/cytoxan will work for her, as she'll get her labs again next week.
