Little Blakie, hit head on with another kid at school and then fell and hit his head on the cement; he is unconscious and going to Children's hospital by ambulance! Lord, give me sanity!

    Prayers for Blake
Heavenly Father I come before you today to ask for Prayer on behalf of little Blake. Lord may you place your hand upon him to protect him from this fall. I raise him up to you for protecting and healing of anything the doctors might find. We pray that this will be nothing more than a slight bump on the head and a little ice cream for recovery. In Jesus name we pray Amen.

    Bobby in Dallas

Please keep up informed on your grandson.

    Deeb Breaths, Grandma!
Sometimes we forget to breath during times like this... keep reminding yourself (and your daughter) to breathe!

Fact: Kids are very resilient. Something that would take us down and out for the count, kid will rebound very quickly.

An example of this... when I was 5 years old, one day I had been cooped up inside all day because it had been raining all day. The sun magically came out about 4:30pm but my mom wouldn't let me go outside until after I had had dinner with the family. I ate so quickly and I was outta there... and ran across the street to my little friends' house. Alas, he was having dinner with his family and wasn't allowed out until they were finished. Fine. I'll wait for him outside. Now, keeping in mind, back then the houses built in the 50s in a suburb that was below sea level, had no basements. So the two floors were built above ground. My friend's house had a flight of about 14 steps from the ground to the back door/porch. There was a railing around the porch and the roof of the house was like an A-Frame and slanted down so that the edge of the roof was only about 2 feet from the top of the railing of the porch.

So, thinking like any bright 5-year old, what better place to hide and wait for one's little friend but on the roof of his house. It was just a matter of climbing up onto the railing and then up onto the slanted roof. Now, when he would come out the back door looking for me, I could shout out "Boo!" from the roof above the door. Pretty kewl, eh??

Only problem... remember the rain I spoke of earlier?? Uh huh... the roof was wet.. hence slippery, so I no sooner got up and my feet slipped and down I rolled! At that point, I wasn't over the porch, which would have been about a 7 foot fall... noooo, I slipped and fell to the ground below (2 storey house) and landed on my head on the cement sidewalk.

Ya, I broke my arm in the fall and fractured my skull... and when we were at Emergency, the doctors asked me what had happened? My mother was in the room with me and I would just look at her and not say a word. For two reasons. 1) I had been talked never to talk to strangers and these doctors and medical people in the room were strangers 2) I knew what I had done was a no-no and I was going to get in big do-do for climbing up on the roof without permission. So best to just shut up and not say a word. I would get in trouble for talking to strangers and I was already in trouble for climbing up on the roof... why make it worse for myself?

Ha!! My silence had the hospital get a social worker involved... suspecting this could be a case of child abuse ;) I mean, how often do you find 5 year olds on the roof of houses??

The moral of the story... other than the broken bones, I bounced back and was held captive at home. After that scare, while I had my arm in a cast and my head bandaged, I was not allowed out of my yard. I wasn't allowed to climb trees, swings, or anything where I might fall and hurt myself. I finally begged and pleaded and was such a pain in the neck, that my mom let me go next door to my little girlfriend's house... with strict orders not to climb trees or fences or play ditch tag. Hmmm... but Judy had a little swing in the carport, more like a board with a rope, tied to one of the beams in the carport. When it hung still, it was only about 5-6 inches off the ground. How dangerous could that be? Even if I were to fall, it would only be 5-6 inches? So yep... this was me hopping onto the swing, being pushed by my friend and sure enough, the rope broke when I was on the upswing ;) Down I crashed and banged my head on the cement floor... back to the hospital I had to go.

From them I was basically locked in my room until all wounds healed. But yes, I survived the second head trauma.

So, scary as it is... try not to fret. Kids don't like being the centre of attention in hospitals, so being quiet (especially if they normally aren't quiet) and just staring at their parent, may mean something totally different than they are badly injured. And if he does have a concussion or broken bones, remember, these all heal.

Christmas is going to be fine, just you wait and see :)

    Yay!
( sigh of relief )...So glad to hear he is gonna' be ok.

These kids will scare us to death and they recuperate and we are still nervous wrecks. My son played high school football. Played the whole game...defensive tackle and offensive guard. Every Friday night he came home used, abused, and his eyes rolling all around.I got to where I couldn't stand to go to the games and hear all of the 'crunching' of helmets.

    Hi Raquel,

I'm just reading this after you've updated it and said he has the concussion but is fine. Thank goodness! If it's not one thing, it's another- the fun never ends!
I'm sure you'll all keep an eye on him and won't let him overdo it too soon.

Take care & hugs to you-
    Lisa
