Crizotinib - New experimental treatment

doctors are testing out a new experimental treatment that is making a dramatic difference.
"Lung cancer was really a shock," said Glenn Mitchell.
Glenn has never smoked, so he did not expect the diagnosis.
But after less than two months of a new experimental treatment, just three pills twice a day, his cancerous tumor was gone.
“The tumor that we saw is gone,” said Suresh Ramalingham, MD of Emory University Winship Cancer Institute.
"I expected the drug to work, but not in four weeks," said Glenn.
Mitchell is one of more than 100 patients testing an experimental drug called Crizotinib. It targets the switch that turns cancer on and off.
"So the cancer cells for them to grow and multiply and spread to other parts of the body constantly require certain signals to be on, and this drug turns off the switch," said Suresh.
In recent studies, more than half the patients taking the experimental drug saw their tumors shrink.
Mitchell's treatment is going so well, he can think less about his lung cancer, and more about enjoying his retirement.
There are three separate clinical trials of the drug now recruiting patients in the Seattle area

    HI,
    That's really great news to hear someone who's getting good results. My husband died in March from lung cancer. He had a RARE side effect from Avastin & hemorraged. I miss him so much and just wish the chemo would've worked. He was always healthy and had just been diagnosed in January. These holidays are hard and can't wait till there over.     Thanks so much for posting this information. I looked at several web sites since that talk of the impressive results from Crizotinib. I plan to talk this over with my onco on Wednesday as a part of initial discussions of a treatment plan. Thanks again for passing on this informattion. I'll let you know what the oncologist says regarding clinical trials.

    Trial studies
    The information about Crizotinib was on my local news program this morning (12 Dec 10) and I thought I'd pass it on.

    Another Avenue
    I have a close friend that was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, this
    set in motion my quest for a "natural" solution to his potentially fatal
    problem.

    While In conversation with an old friend one day a passerby overhead the details
    of our discussion which at the time happened to be about my friends lung cancer.

    This gentleman went on to say that he had literally just cured his wife after 4

    Here is another example of "a recipe to erase cancerous tumors" - and this post mixed in (as if to blend) with some very exciting news about a breakthrough medication that really does show great clinical promise - and imagine, it is being tested in clinical trials -

    I had the same reaction. Crizotinib really does appear to be a great drug, but then he went on and spoiled it with a miracle cure.

    I briefly discussed this with my Oncologist and I am not a candidate. To be eligible, one must have undergone one Platimum based chemotherapy round and must have a specific gene (ALK, I Believe). If you have the chemotherepy completed, the sponsor will pay for the genetic testing.

    I am scheduled for a mediastinoscopy on Tuesday that will help refine my diagnosis. Who knows?, surgery may still be an option.
