I forgot to tell you men out there about my adventure with a punch drunk bladder.

I have had this happen to me 2 times after surgeries. When I woke up they had a cath in me. The next day they took it out. No big deal. Then I could not pee. After almost a day I still could not pee. I sat up in bed and it hurt like hell. I hit the nurse button.

I tell her what is wrong and she comes back with a cath. She then proceeds to play a roto rooter guy that just hit a crushed pipe and thinks he can push thru the damn thing with this tool of the devil. Talk about hurt. Nothing happens as she cannot get the damn thing in me. She then says she has to order a special cath to use and leaves.

Now this is when you start making special deals with God. You know “let me piss and I will do this, that or anything you want”. Then it was like the clouds parted and the sun shown thru the windows. I had to pee. Would you believe I pissed 500 cc in one pee. I think the cath scared the hell out of the bladder.

I called my nurse back. She was happier then I was. She then told me that what I needed was called a couday cath. (not sure about the spelling) It is just for men. She also told me that my bladder was just still asleep from the surgery.

    Youch!
That hurts just talking about, Kerry

I always wake up from surgery with a catheter, of course.

But, never had to have one while awake...one time they pulled it too quick on me too and said they would need another one for me....not unless I'm out cold I told him.

And later on, things started to move and we avoided it.

I'm afraid I'd clock someone in the skull if they came at me while I'm awake.

It's the little things we take for granted, isn't it?

Honestly, I wasn't going to open it up and peek since it was to the guys, but, um, well, Lori did it first, and I just sort of, well, followed.

    at least we can pee
my big op was on the 7th october. two months ago.
    I hated the cath.
Then I hated the horrible overfull bladder.

I cannot poo but at least I can pee!!! yipee!!!

sometimes the simple things in life are the best.
like my 5 year old still asks me to clean his bum.
I do it with a strange melancholy.

Well, you knew we had to peek at this post. Yikes, nothing like the threat of a cath to get the plumbing going. Ouch!

    Take care - Tina
