I now know why The Marshalls are always saying what a wonderful man Dr. Luketich from UPMC is. Per their recommendation I Fed-Exed all of my husbands records to Dr. Luketich along with CT and PET scans on Cd's. He phoned me yesterday and I don't think ever in my life I have spoken to a more generous, caring, compassionat and loving doctor. He gave his time to me to discuss my husbands cancer and if there was anything now he could help him with. I know in my heart that if there is any chance for my husband it would be with this Dr.
He answered my questions and said to me that he really would like to help us if he could . The compassion from that man was amazing.
As my husband Vince has a malignant pleural effusion there really is no furthur surgury that can be done as it may not get all the cancer cells. I understand that. He is going to speak with his oncologists at UPMC next week and see if there is anyway the chemo Vince is taking here may be tweeked to be more beneficial. His P.A. Chuck Hileman has called me a couple of times to ask questions and to check on us.
This is an unbelievable responce from a prominant dr and his staff at such a large hospital.
My husband went to Emory in Atlanta and once the dr gave him such a dire prognosis we never heard from him again. To me that is totally unacceptable.

Loretta and Bill you know what you are talking about with Dr. Luketich.
I thank you both for giving of your time to all of us and leading us in the right direction. Thank you Sherri for caring so much and I pray that this Thanksgiving we are able to be thankful for all the many friends we have made on this site.

I will be writing to each of you individually Lorretta, Bill and Sherri.

God Bless you

Barbara

    Barb, How wonderful to have
Barb, How wonderful to have a doctor and staff that acts like they really care. These are far between. It's comforting to know your husband is being looked at as a person and not just a stat. I know because of William, you have found other options and not just sat back doing nothing. I thank God for this site. Patients and caregivers have somewhere to come ,to get truthful help. I was never able to find the answers I needed when I was going thru treatment..
    Praying, Sandra

I just decided it was time to really move forward and this is the right direction. Whether he can help or not its just nice knowing there are still good doctors out there. I think cancer patients really need something positive in their lives and for doctors to just be nice abd compassionate at such a low time is very rewarding. Yes this is a great siteand I have noticed how happy people are here when you get some good news.

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and ate lotsa turkey. We did and it was really nice

    Love ya

I'm a newbie to this site
I'm a newbie to this site and don't know many of you. But I have been reading all the posts since my diagnosis. I read your article and felt you gave me some very helpful info. About sending info to Dr. Luketich, never thought of that move. Maybe you could give me an address so maybe when I get everything together I could try that.
I Thank each and everyone of you on this board.

Thank you both for your replies. It was wonderful talking to the dr. Lee if you would like I can e-mail you personally with info. Now remember he was our 2nd opinion and there are some financial obligations involved. We can talk about it. I only wish he had been our first course of action when Vince was diagnosed in 2009.

    Thanks again.
