Is this normal?

Hi ladies,

I popped over to mums this morning, and she says that she can feel a lump in her tummy , it is in the middle to her right.
She has had 3 lots of chemotherapy followed by surgery, and has since had 2 more lots of chemotherapy , she says it has been there for about a week, (wish she had told me sooner!!!) she has PPC stage 3.
I have made her ring the hospital , still waiting for a call back at the moment.
My question is has anyone else experienced this?
I felt her tummy and I could feel it, I am worried, is it something sinister?
She had complete debulking and responded really well to the chemotherapy she has had, surely it can't be growing? Can it become platinum resistant in that short amount of time?
Om her last 3/4 blood tests they did not do a ca125, which I found strange, I thought this was a way of telling if the treatment is working.the last ca125was before her surgery, I think it was after her second or third chemotherapy it had dropped to within a normal range.
God I am worried, we have been so lucky so far she has sailed through all of it, and I am wondering if the games are now about to begin, reading some of the things you ladies have had to deal with , I am scared!

    Sounds like a hernia to me. Incisional hernias are very common following the big belly surgery. I have a huge one. Here's how to tell if it's a hernia.

    Have your mom stand up and pooch out her stomach as far as she can, tightening the abdominal muscles much like when having a bowel movement. Feel the bulge. If it's hard, roundish, and seems to disappear when she lays down, it's a hernia.

    Have her doctor check it out, just to be sure. The fix is a simple day surgery.

    I agree, sounds like a hernia. I have a lump on my tummy and it's a hernia.

    Recived a call back from the hospital, and after a series of questions the onc says it doesn't sound like it is anything to worry about, thank god.
    He did say to go to her GP so he could have a look, which we did this afternoon, and he said it feels and sounds from her symptoms like a hernia, and certainly doesn't feel cancerous :) .
    Thank you so much for your responses, it is so nice to come and ask people who have been there, done it and got the t shirt! I have rang mum and read your answers over the phone to her, she was having her dinner so didn't want to do the laying down advice, but is going to have a go tonight.
    I must admit when we were in the docs he laid her down and she couldn't locate it until he pressed quite hard on her tummy,as it is slightly tender, then I said I felt it while she was standing up she stood up and located it straight away.
    My mind is at ease now thank you.

    My pleasure. You know, I almost had a full blown panic attack the first time I felt this big bulge in my stomach. I was convinced it was a tumor. My Gyn/Oncologist was out of town, to boot. His nurse told me, "It wasn't there last week, and tumors do not grow that big, that quickly." She suggested I have my PCP check it out, and reminded me (again) that it's not always about the cancer.

    I am waiting until Feb, when my Taxol maintenance is finished, before I can have mine fixed. In the meantime, I have to wear panty girdles instead of my bikini undies and refrain from lifting anything over 5 pounds.

    It is unlikely they will repair your mom's, if it is a hernia, until after she finishes chemo, so tell her to take what precautions she can (see above) so it does not strangulate. If she has vomiting, serious pain, or fever take her immediately to the ER.

    I have on also and will one day take care of it.

    For now, it isn't causing any problems (in the way of pain), because it's more
    fatty tissue than intestinal.

    I do plan to one day have the surgery to take care of it, but after what I've been through...am not all to ready to go under the knife or any surgical procedure at this time.

    So don't be scared because it seems to be a pretty typical occurrence.
