Hi everyone,

Thank you all so very much for the prayers and well wishes! I'm sure that God heard your prayers since Rick's surgery went very well. (It was only 7 hours - not the 14hrs as expected.) And thank God that the cancer spread was minimal to the abdominal cavity. The surgeon removed the omentum and a couple of surprise tumors - one in the colon and another small one from the rectum. We didn't know about these tumors at all, but at least they're out now. Rick is doing well, and was even transferred to a regular room after only 18 hrs. in the ICU! The pain has been difficult to control, but they finally gave him Dilaudid instead of Morphine so he's starting to feel better. The surgeon has recommended that the next chemo treatment be Folfori - without Avastin. He said it would be best to hold the Avastin until it's needed for a cancer recurrence. I suppose this makes sense... Anyway, thank you all again for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers, love and hugs to all, Cynthia

    Awesome
    This is great news Cynthia.
The sooner out of ICU the better.
It's amazing that a great surgeon can find stuff that no one could see on scans. You surgeon must have really taken his time.
Dilaudid is good stuff. I like it much better than morphine. Oxycodone is great but can be very addictive. I had a hard time getting off of it.

Does David have a wound vac? If so, watch it closely. Make sure it's always running. I'm convinced that mine didn't work very well and resulted in the infection. Be all over the nurses and doctors.

I'm really, really happy it went well. Contact me any time.

    wonderful!
    Cynthia,

I'm so glad to hear that he "only" had a 7 hr surgery. That's still a mighty long surgery, but I guess it's all relative to what you're comparing it to!
I will continue to pray for him that he recovers well with no complications and the pain starts to lessen soon. Thanks for the update- do take care of yourself, too!

    so good to hear this!
I pray his healing continues to stay above the curve! I'm another big fan of dilaudid, it really gets the job done! Before you know it he'll be home and working towards that elusive NED!
